I'm not usually one to live and die by the Kane saga but she went full court press today in her press conference. Nothing like calling out 2 Supreme Court Justices and the Senate in less than 5 minutes. ;)

EDIT- The article by Wallace McKelvey linked below is pasted here for those that don't wish to give Pennlive the 'clicks'-

Attorney General Kathleen Kane vowed Monday to dismantle the network of state officials that shared pornographic and offensive emails.

"Make no mistake: I intend to tear down this network once and for all through my appointment of the special prosecutor," she said, in a written statement.

The statement, released Monday, came in the wake of an alleged attempt to "stock" a disciplinary court that could soon weigh in on the case of Supreme Court Justice J. Michael Eakin.

As of Monday, however, the Attorney General's Office has not formally hired the team of special prosecutors led by former Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler.

Kane spokesman Chuck Ardo said the contracts are still being reviewed by the office.

Kane's statement is included in its entirety below:

"Revelations made by the Philadelphia Inquirer this weekend concerning the plot by Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Saylor and Justice Michael Eakin, both Republicans, to stack the Court of Judicial Discipline with an Eakin supporter, just before that body hears serious allegations against the Justice, is, if true, the latest example of the "old boy's network" at work protecting itself. It's an affront to the concept of impartial justice Pennsylvanians should expect from those sitting on the Commonwealth's highest court.

"And make no mistake: I intend to tear down this network once and for all through my appointment of the special prosecutor.

Special prosecutors tapped by Attorney General Kathleen Kane to lead a public corruption investigation are not yet formally employed pending review by Kane's office.

"The fact that Justice Eakin was allowed to vote for a member of the panel empowered to hear and decide formal charges filed against him flies in the face of fairness. That the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania saw no conflict in allowing the vote is even more troubling. But then again, Justice Eakin sat in judgment of my case and voted to suspend my license, even though he had a legal and ethical obligation to recuse himself, knowing I had some of his racially and gender offensive emails in my possession.

"It is exactly that kind of cavalier, business as usual attitude that I threaten by exposing the "hategate" network.

"I would challenge those who for many months have questioned my assertion that there was an entrenched network of judges, prosecutors and lawyers who would take every step necessary to protect the status quo to explain this alleged judicial conspiracy under oath and penalty of law. I would like them to tell the people of Pennsylvania why they should have faith in the Commonwealth's judicial system when two Supreme Court Justices show a callous willingness to rig the outcome of a case.

"Over the past several weeks we've learned of close personal relationships between investigators and those they are charged with investigating. We've learned of close personal relationships between judges and prosecutors. We've learned that reviews are not always what they are touted to be. And now, as the Republican-dominated Senate considers taking unprecedented action against me, we've learned that the Court's Republicans are conducting a secret campaign to fix the game.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane released 48 emails that had either been sent to or from state Supreme Court Justice J. Michael Eakin's private account on Thursday. Here's a sampling.

"Seldom do the machinations of the "old boy's network" become so public. The people of Pennsylvania would have learned none of this if we hadn't taken up the fight. They would have learned none of it if the powerful forces aligned against me had succeeded in keeping me quiet. I promise to continue and encourage all citizens to speak up for what is right."

I don't know who writes Kane's press releases, but they do hit all the high notes. She may very well go down in flames, but her adversaries are getting scorched as well, and it seems they had it coming.
I think the time when she might have gone down in flames has long passed. She has gone outside of the state for help and seems to be gaining, not losing supporters. I'm really encouraged by what she has done and hope it continues. There is no mistake that the points she brings up make an absolute mockery of the state's judicial system. It never ceases to amaze me how f****** corrupt Pennsylvania is. I would imagine that she has the feds keeping an eye on all of this at this point.

Except in the MSM, unfortunately. But that is typical.

I am guessing that they knew that if things picked up steam, that the feds could invite themselves in, and that is why they went after her full-bore. It is almost like they have a death wish. If Gansler is on the up-and-up, this whole state government could go up in flames. They probably don't know what to do next, but they are hoping if they get Kane thrown out of her position that they can use that as a pretext for canceling the whole Gansler thing, I guess. It's still a very risky strategy, because I don't see how Wolf avoids being dragged into the fray if it gets that far.

???? Would you care to elucidate how wolf could get sucked into this? He seems to have been quietly sitting on his hands all throughout this mess.

I also agree, I have had a hunch that he desired end game for the Gansler investigation is to have the Feds step in after he surveys the depth of the corruption.

I think that at some point, if it gets bad enough, Wolf is going to need to call for numerous resignations, investigations, and firings. If there truly is proof that judges and investigators and attorneys were in email contact and were mocking defendants, he is going to have no choice but to step in and use the broom. Otherwise, his opponent in the next election will use it against him strongly.

I'm sure Wolf is ambivalent. Lots of Democrats are likely involved somewhere along the line, as well.

If Wolf wants to step up and be a real leader he should publicly denounce all judicial misconduct regardless of the judges' party affiliation. Being low key is good but a time comes when the top government executive needs to take a stand.

Do the Feds ever do anything? The feds are "looking into 2nd mile" as well and it's kind of clear what was happening, but there's never any action. Just posters saying "the feds are on it" over and over.
The Second Mile is much more complicated, at this time, relative to the Eakin/Fina mess. There is less available evidence for The Second Mile, thanks in part to shredders and Corbett offering time for the shredders. Also, TSM has so many tentacles to it which may include alleged money laundering or what Bucceroni alleges. Porngate has evidence. They just need to comb through it all.

The MSM is part of the cabal. They know the rules....the left plays against the right and visa versa. The MSM is used as a tool to have the two play against eachother. Did you read the "leak" emails? Basically, each side has their pet reporters. If this blows up, those reporters will be exposed as being in the pocket of the left and the right. you will see how they "quid pro quo" eachother for fame and fortune.

What Kane did is leak information just as they did. However, she's hasn't been around long enough to have been indoctrinated. She colored outside the lines. So the right went after her. When the left didn't protect her, she knew she was on her own. So she's extorting them. But, finally, we get a glimpse into how the system really works. Watch, learn, vote accordingly.

The feds get jurisdiction when a person violates federal law. Kids for Cash would likely still be going on if not for the feds.

Are there federal laws against in-state corruption like this? Would any of this be racketeering?
If money can be traced in correlation to inappropriate relationships, then yes. For example, let's assume that hypothetically someone like Seth might get a kickback for protecting someone like Fina because of Fina's knowledge of Seth's prior behavior...

don't know about racketeering, but there are fed laws that cover a HELL of a lot of official, in-state corruption. A Co. Commissioner in Southern WV tried to get the county's tire supplier to put discounted tires on his personal vehicle. When they refused he switched the county's tire business to someone else. Indicted by the feds. This is the case I was thinking of when I said that WV official corruption is like shoplifting socks from a rummage sale.

The Indictment Against County Commissioner Baisden

County Commissioner David Baisden is charged with attempted extortion against Appalachian Tire. According to the indictment against him, in June 2009, Baisden demanded that Appalachian Tire sell him a set of tires for his personal automobile at a special discounted price available only for government vehicles. When Appalachian Tire refused, Baisden threatened to cut off Appalachian’s county business if he did not get the discount. At the time, Baisden was the Mingo County Commission’s purchasing agent, giving him authority to choose where the county bought tires, and the commission bought thousands of dollars’ worth of tires from Appalachian every year.

Despite the threat, Appalachian refused to give Baisden the special price he demanded. In retaliation, Baisden terminated the commission’s business relationship with Appalachian Tire and switched to a different tire supplier. Since June 2009, Appalachian Tire has lost tens of thousands of dollars in business as a result of Baisden’s reprisal.

Baisden, 66, has been a member of the Mingo County Commission since 2009. Prior to his election as a county commissioner, he was Mingo County’s assessor.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Virginia State Police are conducting the investigation.

Counsel to the United States Attorney Steven Ruby is in charge of the prosecution.

An indictment is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

As well, I would think that in these Porngate, Hategate instances the Feds would be interested in that the constitutional rights of people appearing before these "judicial stalwarts" could be seen as being infringed upon.

Katie the Crook calling out alleged corruption? :D

Kinda funny, Katie seems to pack a pretty good and appears to be pack I80 my some pretty heavy artillery, but only weeks ago you, and your ilk, were saying she was in way over her head and would be quickly silenced and neutralized?!?! Your latest rhetoric sound like it is a "Hail Mary" and being motivated by fear, not reality. Just say'in....
