To say that Georgia will be at less than 100 percent for the Sugar Bowl would be a significant understatement.

Monday, it was confirmed that offensive lineman D’Marcus Hayes and linebacker Quay Walker will not play Wednesday against Baylor. The reason for the players’ unavailability is unknown.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, there are now a baker’s dozen UGA players who have been confirmed will be sidelined for the postseason game. Of those 13, a dozen are on the two-deep depth chart. Six of them, three on each side of the ball, are starters.

The list from the Journal-Constitution, which noted that those 13 players have appeared in a total of 149 games this season, appears below, including the number of appearances this season:

OL Ben Cleveland (academics), 13 games

OL Andrew Thomas (NFL training), 13

OL Isaiah Wilson (NFL training), 11

OL D’Marcus Hayes (undisclosed), 6

RB Brian Herrien (undisclosed), 12

WR Lawrence Cager (ankle injury), 9

WR Dominick Blaylock (knee injury), 12

DB J.R. Reed (foot injury), 13

DB Divaad Wilson (undisclosed), 13

DL Tyler Clark (undisclosed), 13

OLB Walter Grant (concussion), 12

ILB Quay Walker (undisclosed), 13

DB Tyrique McGhee (undisclosed), 9

That list could actually grow by one before kickoff. D’Andre Swift, who suffered a shoulder injury late in the regular season that helped severely limit him in the SEC championship game earlier this month, is still uncertain as to his availability.

The Bulldogs’ leading rusher, Swift has put up back-to-back 1,000-yard season in 2018 and 2019 after totaling 618 yards as a true freshman in 2017, and is averaging 6.6 yards per carry for his career thus far. He’s also a threat out of the backfield, totaling 666 yards and five touchdowns on 73 receptions.

It’s widely expected that Swift will leave UGA early shortly after the Sugar Bowl.

This ought to give Rhule the chance to prove he’s a real genius, right PBB?

The main thing is they got there, it's a bowl tie in, screw everyone else, yay SEC.

It’s PPB, and MR doesn’t need to prove he’s a genius....he’s soon to be an NFL head coach. The NFL only wants the best and the brightest.

How many NFL interviews is Franklin receiving?

Heard an interesting opinion on radio other day that might help attract viewers to bowls and kind of off-set the growing numbers of players who skip the bowls:

>> Change the redshirt eligibility rule to "4 + bowl game". Right now, a player can play up to 4 games and still maintain his redshirt. Simply add the bowl game. Make it "4 regular season games + bowl game".

The logic is that fans of teams may be more interested in watching a meaningless bowl game if they know some of their prized freshman will be show cased.

What needs to change is the bowls agreeing to more flexibility with their matchups. How much better would the NY6 ratings and attendance have been this year with:

PSU -UGA: Sugar
ND- Florida: Orange
Baylor-Memphis: Cotton

Instead, they selfishly hold on to their predetermined conference alignments and screw themselves and fans out of better and more interesting games.

Not sure how many would watch Baylor-Memphis, but Orange bowl drew 6.07 million, which was lowest in two decades. PSU in cotton at noon had more eyeballs at 6.22 million.

In a head to head match-up, Notre Dame avg. 4.17 million, which was lowest since 2012. Imagine if ND played PSU in a prime time match-up.

Certainly looks like Cotton and the Camping were hurt by playing at the same time and the two playoff games being played in prime time on the same day.

It is interesting to look at the ratings. Takeaway: interesting match-ups did well; non-interesting match-ups didn't.

Why don't you tell us. Maybe Franklin has been approached for job interviews and he said, 'Don't bother. I'm not interested". So please, enlighten us as to how many interviews and interview requests James Franklin has received from the NFL.

that’d be an auto bid for Notre dame every year since they’ve got legions of wal mart fans who are going to watch on tv and attend every year, no matter of record

I agree. But I'd even go 1 step further. Why are you including Memphis and ND??? They really want to make the NY6 meaningful they should just take the top 12 teams. What I find mind-numbing is that for almost two full months, from October thru December there are non-stop debates about who are "the 4 best teams". The "4 best teams" are analyzed from every possible perspective.... schedules... conference... eye ball tests.... But then we get past the top 4 teams and it goes to ridiculous conference tie-ins and appeasing 1 G5 team.

Why not be consistent. If you are so worried about the "4 best teams", then carry that to 12 and take the top 12 teams for the NY6 bowls.

You'd have:
Peach Bowl : LSU (1) - OU (4)
Fiesta Bowl : OSU (2)- Clemson (3)
Rose Bowl : Oregon (6) - Wiscy (8)
Sugar Bowl: Georgia (5) - Baylor (7)
Cotton Bowl : Penn St. (10) - Bama (12)
Orange Bowl : Florida (9) - Utah (11)

Now that would be a really good NY6 schedule.
