FC/OT: And the rebooted Fletch franchise will now feature

I love John Hamm. Dude has so much range. He was simply fantastic in Mad Men. And, his scenes on 30 Rock playing the really handsome macho guy that is dumber than a box of rocks is hilarious. I recall one scene where he was swooning Tina Fey then confidently strides to his Harley and bolts off. You are expecting this grand retreat but he bobbles the bike and almost lays it down on its side but pretends nothing went wrong.

This scene, from Mad Men, is shown in every marketing meeting in the world. Here Kodak is releasing "the wheel" (which later becomes known as a "carousel") and is getting a pitch from their prospective advertising team.

Yeah, well said. Hamm is awesome on SNL too - has a lot of range for a guy best known for playing a moody, alcoholic, womanizing, bastard genius. The 30 Rock stuff was the best! I think this could be pretty greet noting Chase is a very tough act to follow.

I agree...and when I started reading the thread felt the same way. there is nobody that could play "Fletch" as well as Hamm. Looking forward to it, honestly. or his he playing John Coctostan?

Kevin Smith tried to get this rebooted a while ago with Jason Lee as Fletch; Hamm is a much, much better choice.

I don't really like when a character defined by an actor goes through a reboot with another actor, but I think this one might work. Sort of like Steve Martin doing Peter Sellers in the reboot of Pink Panther.

But there have been many, many failures, like Baywatch, Ghostbusters, Charlie's Angels, Karate Kid, Lone Ranger, and on and on....

I don't know man... Sketch was Chevy and Chevy was Fletch. It's like trying to redo Ferris with a new lead.
If you read the books you would know Chevy Chase was a terrible choice to play Fletch. I loved all the books and was really excited when they were making the movie until I found out it was Chevy playing him because he was nothing like the character in the book. I ended up enjoying the movie because I didn’t watch it with the Fletch character in mind because it was so far off. Hamm might be a little closer to the book character, but he’s not really right either.

I have heard that about the books. I never read them. Maybe that's why I loved the movie (the sequel was disappointing... very derivative).

Better Danny Ocean? Sinatra or Clooney?

Well you just hit on a movie I forgot I walked out of. The Johnny Depp Lone Ranger. Ughhh.

100% correct. The Chevy Chase Fletch movies were fun but they are not really about the character Fletch that I know. John Hamm is quite a bit closer.

That movie was a genuine atrocity. It was such a traumatic experience for me that I'd forgotten it when somebody asked about worst movies or the like.

Another, is the god awful version of the Green Hornet. I didn't even finish that on DVD. LOL.

Agree. That was truly one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. For a major blockbuster A list Hollywood production literally nothing worked. It was terrible.
