FC/OT: Did the Big Ten vote today?

I see that Jeff and Dan are zeroed in and on the same page. They probably have 30 plus actual votes from the 14 University Presidents and their searching for a scapegoat to explain this fiasco.

Dan Patrick looks like the 65 year old virgin with all those toys and collectables.

What is the 'drop dead' date do you think for an Oct. 17 start?
I'd say drop dead date is Oct 2 for 10/17 start, so still plenty of time to discuss and watch other teams cancel games (and play games)

Franklin says he needs 4-6 weeks (which is total bullshit) though

So, say they vote on 10/2 to play; they'll have two weeks of full practices before the first game right? Until then, it's just he 12 hours a week? No idea why they can't practice normally....

Would you want to practice if you have no games on the schedule?

I mean maybe for a day or two, but after that players would begin to revolt.

I get your point, but is it up to the players? I'm not saying they should be doing two a days or anything, but if all the sudden the season starts in two weeks, how prepared will 12 hours a week get you? Does the 12 hours include team/positional meetings, working out, etc.?

Yeah I understand the point but right now there is no season.

Not maybe a season. They voted no season.

I think your larger point is the kill switch day is earlier than people think. 2 weeks of practice and a lot of players get hurt.

Need to decide in the next week imo

12 hrs supplanted the 20 hr rule when conferences cancelled so by this rule the 12 would be all athletic sponsored activities.

"According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Bylaw 2.14, students competing in intercollegiate athletics in Division I or II are limited in the number of hours they can participate in athletically sponsored activities both in season and out of season. These limitations were established to help ensure that student-athletes are afforded quality time for academic pursuits similar to the general student body. Specifically, student-athletes are limited to no more than 20-hours of athletic-sponsored activities during in season and eight hours during out of season per week. The 20-hour rule, established by the NCAA in 1991, was established to maintain the amateur status of the student-athlete and to help keep colleges and universities from abusing the status of the student-athletes. By restricting the weekly hours in which student-athletes can practice and compete, the NCAA prioritized academic activities over athletic pursuits."

But only 5 of those 12 hours can be on-field "practice" and as we know without full pads.

Michigan St just ordered a two quarantine of 30 residences. How inclined are they to vote yes on football when they are telling students to stay in their buildings?

Wisconsin has nearly 2,000 positive tests.

Do you think playing football should be the priority for the university presidents?

Maybe they are more focused on the tens of thousands of other students.

Apparently only Big 10 schools are having cases...all these other schools must be Covid free so they can play football.

Meeting of the Big Ten presidents...for those of you who know your flowers.

Wasn’t the Ivy League first to cancel fall sports? Also, they haven’t changed their position to play football, I believe.

Actually, they do have their act together this time, unlike the last time. A month ago, the B10 thought they would demonstrate their wisdom and leadership by being the first conference to announce postponement/cancellation of the season. The problem was the fact that they expected all the other conferences to immediately follow their lead. They didn't expect 3 of the conferences to say "not so fast". So, the resulting public bashing of Warren, the presidents, and the conference was unexpected and their response and lack of transparency to this reaction only further contributed to the public flogging.

This time, they are actually planning to have all their ducks in a row before making an official announcement about return to play. They will have an agreed upon story on why they changed their position, they will have the tv deals lined up, and they will know what the plans are for scheduling. There won't be the conflicting stories coming out of the different camps like there were a couple of weeks ago.

So, look for a mid to late october start up to be announced "soon". This gives them the ability to move forward if everything proceeds with the other conference's attempts to play and it also gives them the ability to pull the plug if things go poorly elsewhere.

I must say. You sure know how to put lipstick on a pig. : ^ )

I will believe it when I see it.

It's not going to happen, people need to face reality.

The longer a delay continues, the more I believe you are right. If it's play in Spring or don't play at all, I'd rather not play at all - unless there is a way to tie bowl games in with the Pac 12. Otherwise, better to just get ready for 2021.

Every time the ACC and SEC play the Big10 looks bad - I guess they can't figure out how to multi-task and handle COVID and football at the same time like just about every other sport in this country.

What the hell is going on? This shouldn't be that hard play or not... make up your mind. The whole world is playing sports at all levels: NFL, NBA, MLB, Premier League, PGA, NHL, SEC, ACC, Big12, HS, Cycling, etc. It should be that hard of a decision. Basically, they spread a bunch of misinformation about myocarditis as an excuse because they are a bunch of pussies. Still feels political at this point and what they are doing now is all for show.

I am pretty sure there hasn't been much out of the Big Ten since they made their decision not to play.
Everything you are complaining about are people other than the big ten opening their mouths.

Which is why I laugh at the people who blame this on politics.
