Daniel Craig's final outing. Checks in at 163 minutes...I'm not a massive Bond fan; I don't think I've seen one since Skyfall. But, I'll put it on while on a flight or something if I haven't seen it. I like Craig, but prefer a more 'dashing' version of 007 whereas he's very physical.

In this day of political correctness, the Bond series can no longer get away with what made it so great during the Connery and Moore days. (See if they ever come up with a name like Pussy Galore again.)

Under the constraints, I love what they did with the character in Daniel Craig. I think they will have trouble matching him. He's a strong but flawed Bond.

Though the action scenes can be a bit over-the-top (wish they would stop with the ultra fast camera movement), the depth of this Bond character is otherwise very real.

I don't know where they're going to go with the franchise, but I see a good bit of the likely candidates to replace him are very diverse (Dev Patel, Daniel Kaluuya, Riz Ahmed, John Boyega), so my favorite candidate (Michael Fassbender) is likely not going to get a shot (but I heard he turned it down a while ago anyway). Still, would love to see a Bond period piece for the next outing (something in the 40's or 50's).

I’ve heard Damien Lewis’s (from Billions) name kicked around for James Bond. That would work I think. It all depends on the writing.

Hey Midnighter, thoughts on the upcoming PTA flick with Philip Seymour Hoffman's kid?

Man, I don’t know - PTA is one of my all time favorites but cautiously optimistic here after his last two outings. Inherent Vice was really long and self indulgent (and I realize it wasn’t written by PTA) and mostly messy, and there were things I liked a lot in the much more restrained Phantom Thread, so hoping this is more a return Boogie Nights form (similar era, location, etc.). I’ll check it out for sure - cool that Philip Seymour Hoffman’s kid is in it too.

Looking forward to it. I was on the road this morning and had a company vehicle with terrestrial radio only (I listen to XM). The NYC radio jocks were talking about the movie, and said that the reports from the London premier this week were highly positive - and that this is a film you must see on the big screen.

I was not so sure about Craig at first, but now I rate him #2 Bond behind Connery. It is time to go for him, and let the next guy come in.

I disagree with changing who Bond is, and who plays him - Bond is a reflection of Fleming, who was a hard drinking, womanizer and was a naval intelligence officer - and whomever plays Bond should be that type of character. I think it's OK if the characters around him evolve, and Bond himself may have to make some adjustments, but the core aspects of the character should not change.

What's the old line? He is the man men want to be, and the man women want to be with.

On a slightly different note, I may go and see The Many Saints of Newark.

I will likely enjoy this last Bond very much, as this will be the last Bond of its kind. I expect the casting of the next Bond to be a huge screwup

The new Bond: Ricky Gervais

Boom!
