Not an official record, due to being wind-aided. (still awfully fast)

Despite winning two gold medals on Saturday at the UIL Track and Field Championships in Austin, untimely wind conditions blew away Silsbee senior Kalon Barnes' chance at a national record.

Barnes' time of 10.04 in the Class 4A 100-meter dash at Michael A. Myers Stadium easily earned him first place and surpassed last year's effort of 10.22.

According to UIL regulations, wind conditions must be at or below a 2.0 scale for a record-setting time to count. Wind levels during Barnes' run scaled at 3.2.

The time was still recorded for Barnes' win, but not counted as the official national record. Barnes, who said he was aiming for a time under ten seconds, is confident he can replicate the record-setting time.

"What I know is I can do it again," Barnes said of the technicality. "I can do it in college or somewhere even before I get to college, so it doesn't matter. I know I have time to do it again."

Barnes, a Baylor signee for football and track, followed up his first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with another in the 200-meter.

Running a 20.55, Barnes tied a personal record and took first place by nearly a half a second.
