Bob Kane & Stan Lee introduced me to the world of comics as a kid. Spider-Man was always a favorite as were the Fantastic Four. A legendary figure in the entertainment world.

My heart is as heavy today as it was the day JVP passed away. If I could have picked two bonus grandfathers for myself, it would have been those two men.

While I saw Joe up close on a few occasions, I never got the chance to actually meet him. My son and I did have the good fortune of meeting Stan at Awesome Con in DC, July of last year. I had him sign five Marvel comics that had belonged to my late father back in the early 60s.

As Stan signed, I thanked him for entertaining three generations of our family. My son added that it was an honor to meet him. Not missing a beat, and still signing away, Stan quipped, “I’m sure it is!”

Ah Stan, we’ll miss you. Give Joe a resounding “Excelsior!” for all of us.

His other great phrase was ‘face front, true believers!’ Always loved his narration on Marvel cartoons.
