I don't think it's in order from best to worst and certainly isn't chronological. Saquon Barkley is on the list as is John Cappelletti. For Cappy, it not only recognizes his Heisman Trophy, but claims he won a national championship in 1973. Is this just a typo, or did we get awarded a natty be someone other than AP/UPI in 1973?

PSU was 12-0 and finished #5. They were not National Champs. ND was #1.
I am aware that they weren’t recognized with a mainstream national championship in 1973, only 1982 and 1986. We did receive national championship recognition by The NY Times in 1994, and Pitt claims so many obscure national championships before the modern era. I wondered whether this could have happened in 1973 for penn state.

I'm not aware of any National Championship, although we did win the Lambert Trophy!

The list is alphabetical

That 73 team would have beat any of the 4 teams ahead of them Alabama, Notre Dame, OSU and Michigan. A very under appreciated team , even by PSU fans.
PSU should have played ND that year, but there's that positioning again.

UCF has a big sign on their stadium - National Champs - for last year.

I like JVP's thoughts on the topic generally for his unrecognized teams. He took a vote and they came out number one
