What a punk - he nearly hammered Chris Perry with a very cheap elbow, then went crazy.

I've never been a huge fan given the way he likes to humiliate outclassed opponents. He's lucky people intervened as Perry had every right to destroy him.

His "apology" makes him a bigger douche than if he had said nothing.

Don't see anything wrong with his apology. The kids is probably 19 years old. How were your interpersonal skills at 19? I give him an A for effort.

I am with you. If you are sorry, then you don't make excuses and blame the other guy......essentially for wrestling. You want to represent the US....but you are going to act like that.......no thanks.

Agreed. His apology is complete BS and a lie. The match ends with Perry getting a gut wrench for the final 2 points and he immediately lets go and yet Valencia says Perry was messing with his ribs 2-3 seconds after the whistle blows so then he kicks Perry (or attempts to as it's hard to see if the kick connected) in the face. I understand heat of the moment reaction but his apology makes it worse as he is unrepentant.

He is a total A hole for those actions....Wonder what his Coach did to him....Probably nothing...Reminds me of an Iowa wrestler...IMO

Well, the kid is 19 and not used to being dominated. He is good and has beat some senior level guys but I think he should go back to juniors this year and try his hand. Also maybe taken some lessons from Pico on how to throw a punch.

His coach is Zeke Jones and you can bet he did say something to him about it as soon as they were off the mat. Zeke is a competitor, but he doesn't coach his wrestlers to act like thugs.

Personally, I'd give the kid a little slack. He owned up to what he did and took responsibility for it. Also, if you watch the video and listen, you'll hear the whistle blow before Perry finshes the roll thru on the gut wrench. I don't think Perry was trying to hurt Valencia, and he probably couldn't have stopped his momentum that fast anyway, but I can see how Valencia might have misread the situation and reacted before he had a chance to think it through.

I have to agree with some others here, if you're going to apologize, don't try to make excuses or try to put partial blame on someone else. Say you were wring and move on. His apology didn't surprise me though and neither did the way he went about it. Society doesn't really want to hold anyone accountable anymore and people know this...

The final gut wrench were the points that made it a Tech and ended the match so why would Perry stop? Plus, it's a gut wrench, which is well below the ribs.

It's a little hard to tell for sure, but it looks to me from when the score is posted that Perry had already secured the TF and the last roll thru was just a follow on reaction. I'd have to see the whole video to be sure, it's not clear from where the posted video starts.

A gut wrench can still put pressure on the lowest one or two ribs and you would feel it if one of them had been bruised.

A proper gut wrench should put plenty of pressure on the floating ribs.

At least Valencia gave us something to talk and gossip about for the next couple of days until Midlands/Scuffle/Clash/Etc.

Not sure if it's related to this situation, but A Valencia is not listed among the ASU wrestlers at Midlands. His brother and Benick are both going though.

The kid should get a bye, imo. It was a weak apology, but what really matters is the behavior afterwards. If nothing changes, and he keeps acting like a punk, there will be plenty of chances to hold him accountable for his actions. If his behavior does change, and he manages to control his emotions more, good for him.
