FIRE. MATT. MURRAY.

Hate to be that guy, but it sure looked like the refs didn’t want the caps to go back to Pitt down 2-0. Not saying it was fixed...just a very poorly officiated game.

Murray looked horrible on that last goal scored by Washington. Almost like he wasn't even in the net.

The Pens got screwed on the no-goal call in the 3rd period. Granted, many views showed nothing, but the zoomed-in shot of Holtby's pad showed that the puck clearly crossed the goal line.

Murray's very vulnerable high glove--this has been the case for 3 post-seasons now. The Pens are usually good enough to overcome it but they have to play better defense. Letang is constantly out of position. Kessel is playing with a fourth line center and an AHL winger (Simon) so it isn't shocking that he's not producing. He has no room. Pens need to play better. They didn't get any calls of bounces tonight but that's hockey. Tuesday can't het here soon enough. Hope Dumo is okay.

It’ll be nice to get both 71 and 62 back as well if for no other reason than resetting all of their lines. Who suits if Dumo can’t? Hunwick?

Dumo's fault on the third goal. He went to the bench leaving no one back. Letang had his guy. Pens were sloppy this game. They got away with it last game. Need some production aside from Crosby line. Hopefully, Malkin is back, but need a few from lines three and four like last year.

Also some bad luck. On first goal, Hornqvist passed it right to Ovie, although he was out of position on a bad read by Dumo, leaving Hornqvist back to cover and out of position. Know you have a hate on for Letang, but Dumo was terrible this game before he got hurt.

Letang has to know that Dumo's been on the ice for over a minute at that point and stay back. Letang jumped up. That's hockey 101. Defensemen don't always have "a guy". It was either very poor communication between the two of them or Letang just wasn't paying attention or both.

The truth is neither Dumo or Letang have been good defensively this post season. Maata/Schultz has been BY FAR our best pairing.

I do hate Letang but this is part of the reason why. Everyone needs to stop making excuses for him. He needed to see that Hornqvist was back on the first one and cheat toward Ovie. And he can't jump up ice on the 3rd goal. He's a very difficult guy to play with. Maata is probably the safest person to play with him but Maata does an excellent job knowing when to pinch and I don't trust Letang to cover for him.

Have not seen any of the first two games in this match-up, but all-in-all would think Pitt fans would be happy splitting the two games on Wash’s home ice.

I think we are...and agree that we should be. The game today was frustrating and even though Dumo hasn't been great if he's out for any length of time the Pens are in real trouble. Hunwick is a liability

Seriously lazy hockey by the Pens. Turnovers like the place was a bakery. Murray wasn’t good but also got little help.

Good news is they had a game like this versus the Flyers and still won in six. Protect home ice and their next trip to Washington is an elimination game (which, for some reason, they seem averse to winning the first time too).

How could the viscous elbow hit to the head of Doumalin not be called a penalty?

Hard to believe that wasn't called. Wilson left his feet and intentionally shouldered him in the side of the head. He should get a one game suspension in light of the one Doughty got in the first round against Vegas. Then again, Wilson did not get a suspension for his hit on Wennberg that resulted in a charging minor in the first round against Columbus. According to the league, Wilson avoided supplemental discipline because DoPS “could not determine whether or not Wennberg’s head was the main point of contact.” I just watched the replay and I could tell that Wennberg's head was the main point of contact. Here is the vid.

Kessel needs some help...I think Geno will go...I have no clue about Hagelin
I think 71 was close to going today, but they tried to squeeze 2 more days of rest. Not necessarily a bad call - they already knew they at least had the split in DC. That said, they’ll need BOTH back to ultimately win the series.

Agreed--I think they played it safe today and I'm not upset by that decision at all

Wilson is a punk...the best way to handle him is to treat him like the trash he is and take him out.

That was a tough play to call, live. Even on the replay it wasn’t until they showed it the third time that I caught what happened. There was a lot of contact in a very small area on that play.

Here we go again. Every time the Penguins or Steelers lose it's because of a vast league-wide conspiracy.

There must be something in the water in Western PA.

Anytime any team loses it’s a league-wide conspiracy according to that team’s fans. Penn State fans may well be at the top of that list.

Seriously, can you read?

Also, look who inserted himself into a Pittsburgh thread. What was it you were saying about inferiority complexes there Captain Irony???

All fan bases create conspiracy theories as to why they lose. The Pens didn't lose because of the refs today but the game was poorly officiated...and not just regarding calls that went against the Pens. It happens. It's not the end of the day. The Pens still could have won by playing better hockey. They didn't.

The Caps fan base is actually one of the worst when it comes to conspiracy theories. Our (Penn State) isn't much better.

Probably a goal. Understandable how not called so on ice. Some ambiguity in video review. Stands but not confirmed.

Willie will get a game for the shoulder but disagree about the jump. If he does not, it will be because of questions of avoidabikity given the close backchecking.

Didn't see the game, but this type of thing happens often enough in hockey, especially in big games and series to seriously question the league's integrity. It's almost like they need to give out a mini Stanley Cup to the teams that get screwed for seemingly unqualified officiating or some other ulterior league motive.

Pens fans Friday: we're so in the caps' heads! It's the greatest!

Pens fans Sunday: the league is out to get us. It's a conspiracy.
Caps fan here. Looked like a goal on replay. I didn’t watch the game, I refuse to watch another caps implosion. :)

Except they can't use that angle when it's that close. Therefore inconclusive.

They sound like Flyers Fans now - remember the tripping no call in the last Flyers game? Fans are fans and ripping one group or the other makes you look stupid when you turn around and say the exact same thing you ripped others for.

Pretty sure Kessel is dinged up a little, I'd be stunned if Geno didn't play tomorrow night (just surprised he didn't play yesterday), and I wouldn't expect to hear anything on Hagelin this series - slight chance if they make it through to the next round.

Kessel May be dinged, but I think his production has more to do with who he’s playing with than how hurt he may (or may not) be.

Which is why they need Hagelin as well as Malkin back - so they can reset their lines.

I mean, Kessel has no time or space but he's still creating chances. He set Simon up perfectly at least 3 times in this series. I would really like to see them throw ZAR or even Sprong on that line until Hagelin is ready. Kessel needs someone to finish and we don't want to break up Sid or Brassard's line right now.
