I'm taking a buddy to his first college football game this fall. He's never been to State College either. Grew up in NYC and went to NYU as did his whole family pretty much so he's never been exposed. I've taken people to their first Penn State game but they had been to State College before so they knew the town but he's got no idea what he's in for...so I figured why not have his first game be the Michigan game. Not sure if he'll survive but that's not the point....do you guys remember when you took someone to their first Penn State game? (excluding family members)

That's just mean. Poor guy is going to regret his decision to go to NYU.

I've taken a few people, one in particular stands out. It was the game against Minny where M-Rob ended that guys playing career. I took a friend who hates PSU but loves to party there. He went to a small school and would never admit it, but is insanely jealous of the PSU experience. He had a blast tailgating all day and partying all night, and I even caught him cheering for the Lions during the game.

Took a good friend that I've played basketball / tennis / bowled with for 30+ years back to the Penn State - ND game in 2007.....a 31-10 win.

He had gone to college at Northern Illinois so had never been to anyplace like Beaver Sradium.

Flew in and out of "the other" BWI. Over a few days he got to see a lot of beautiful Central Pennsylvania.

Bowling with him later this week, I'll remind him it's coming up on a tenth anniversary. Time flies!

Am hoping to take him this winter to a KU basketball game in Allen Fieldhouse so he will have then experienced the best venue in both CFB AND CBB!

Funny...I took a buddy to the Iowa 6-4 game for his first at the Beav. He suffered through a few more that season and the next before he moved away. I'm sure wonderful memories of that game are seared into his brain.

Plenty of suffering that day.
It was the era where large masses of fans would leave early. I can see people lined up the stairs of the South upper deck on their way out of the stadium. Although I don't believe it originated that day, a guy a few rows behind me would always stand up and yell as loud as he could...thanks for staying the WHOLE game. My buddy slipped that line into conversations with me for years afterward.

I took a friend and his wife to the Temple game last year. Neither went to or graduated from college. However, both live near Columus now. Also, when he was a teenager he lived about 3 miles from the Rose Bowl and went to several Rose Bowl games, back then. They were REALLY impressed with the "Spirit" of the Penn State fans. They also loved that the whole stadium sang the National Anthem and the Alma Mater. They loved the tailgating and said they would come back just for that. The whole hang up for their whole trip was we couldn't get her to do jello shots.

The first time my wife went to a PSU game was the 2005 OSU game. Could not have picked a better game to take her to for her first time. After Penn State won that game we were walking back to the car when she looked at me and said "we should get season tickets for next year". We have had season tickets ever since.

I took a English business associate to his first ever football game. We drove up in the RV had dinner at the Tavern.
Did the skeller and a few other places the fraternity and the Nittany Lion Inn for the night.
Met him for breakfast and walked the campus back to the RV for some serious Tailgating.
Went to the game and tried to explain the rules etc. We won so it was a good day.
Friends with seats behind me in the stadium invited us to their post game tailgate and steak fry
Brunch at the Penn Stater and a long ride home to Philadelphia.
All the way he kept commenting on the crowd and the lack of violence for such a hotly contested game. He marveled at the fans from both sides sharing tailgate etc.
He was a part owner of the Aston Villa soccer team. He said the only way he could take me to a match would be by limo well before the game and into the owners box where we would stay until well after the match and then wisked away by limo.
Up until he died he would tell his English friends about his weekend in Happy Valley and the absence of violence.
He also became a football fan and a Penn State fan.

Fairly early in our relationship, I took my now wife to a PSU-Syracuse game (dinner in Station Square on Friday). She was born and raised in Columbus. I did not expect her to become a PSU fan. But she did. I took her there so she could see what it was all about and understand where I was coming from. We kept our season tickets until 2013, when the cost and travel simply got to be too much as I hit my late 50s....

I used to take my buddies from church as well, while I still had those tickets. One of my good friends is a Michigan fan, and we were up on a Friday when Franco was signing autographs, so my buddy went through the line. Franco told him to "have fun this weekend--but not too much fun."....

the sPitt game should be a fun game to take anyone to this year.

So wait, you can experience the culture of Pittsburgh and drive up to PSU for a game in the same weekend? Why fans buy $6 tickets and go to home games?

If your definition of fun is putting up with those delusional bastards enjoying the last few minutes of last year's lucky win, possibly their last against PSU ever, and then slinking out at halftime of a blowout.
