I have read that the biggest improvement in college football players is from the first year of playing (starting or significant rotation) to the second year.

If that's true, PSU has an awful lot of players in that category this year. A positive sign I think.

Slade
Parsons
Mustipher
Shelton
Hamler
Dotson
Menet
Friermuth
D Joseph
Brooks
Luketa
Hippenhammer
Miranda and Thorpe (arguably)
Clifford (somewhat -- he did play last year)

These guys come out of two excellent recruiting classes and one very good one. Outside of landing the number 1 class this year, the talent can't be upgraded much more. The time for 11+ wins begins now.

Early enrollment probably flattens the curve a bit for some players. Parsons comes to mind.
I mean, you arrive as a true freshman, learn a new position and lead the team in tackles without even starting.
