Fitzgerald?

Simply not worth it. We have this golden opportunity in 2025 and it cannot be polluted by any controversy that we invite in to the university. It’s not our fight.

F$ck the worthless media.
While I agree Lamestream Media sucks let's not invite any problems and it might drive more recruits away and make it even more difficult to recruit. It would give all who recruit against us a potential field day in negative recruiting and they would use it.

Penn State’s Board of Trustees’ Committee on Equity and Human Resources, which oversees high-paying contracts, has again pushed back the meeting that could signal the conclusion to the search for the football program’s vacant defensive coordinator position.

The Board last week originally scheduled two meetings. The first was supposed to commence on Friday, Jan. 17 and the second was scheduled for 9 a.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 20. Those have both been cancelled. A third meeting has been scheduled in place of those two, and is set to begin with an executive session at 8 a.m. ET followed by a public session at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23

Don't they already negative recruit?

What's Pat Fitzgerald up to these days? He's going to get back into coaching at some point.
The biggest problem for him, aside from being ensnarled in litigation over his firing, is going to be his coaching record at NW. Three of his last four years, they went 1-8 in conference play. He took a pretty successful program to the absolute bottom of the Big Ten despite Northwestern pouring resources into the program. He recruited badly, didn't develop players very well and didn't win, and meanwhile there were some pretty weird stuff going on in the locker room that he supposedly didn't know about.

Yeah NW knows they're not going to compete with Ohio State but they have the money to do a lot better than 1-8.

One year going 1-8 at Northwestern has no impact on the success he had there long term. You're talking about Northwestern
His biggest mistake was being loyal to his school and turning down multiple other opportunities including the Bears twice
Patty Fitz would crush recruiting for Penn State--to think he didn't recruit well or develop players at NW is psychotic.

Only Alabama is allowed to hire him. Or did that designation leave with Alabama Jones, er St. Nick.

Fitz has a son playing at Iowa. A PWO, I believe. Has been an unpaid Asst coach for his kids’ team at Loyola Academy on the Northshore the last 2 years. They won state in 8A this season. While I certainly think he will get back into it, it won’t be until his contract dispute is settled with the school. Right now, NU could be on the hook for as much as $130 million. I’m sure he won’t get that, but I gotta believe will walk away with at least half.

The NU AD, who was already in over his head before the firing went down and if reports are accurate, was in Europe when it did, has already been Re-assigned. The NU President, who pretty much acted unilaterally on the firing, just days after he and Fitz agreed to a 3-week unpaid suspension and recommended by the investigating team of lawyers, is on thin ice too. People can definitely argue both sides whether his firing was justified or not, but the way it got bungled by the 2 guys at the top has had the NU people I know, not pleased.

New coach, David Braun did a great job keeping the ‘23 team focused and amazingly got them to the Las Vegas Bowl and a win over Utah. This past season on the temp field on the Lakefront, things didn’t go as well. The next 2 seasons should determine whether Braun will be around longer or not.

It's 3 years of 1-8 -- 2019, 2020 and 2022. Three of his last 4 years there. That was AFTER NW spent $100 million on the most gold-plated football training facility in college football. At the very time people expected NW to really soar, instead the program fell apart.

Yes he had some good years in the 2010s. But the wheels really came off at the end. You don't lose the way they lost without some toxic stuff happening in the locker room. That's why he's not working in football right now I suspect -- that and his litigation.

He could go 1-8 for a decade and is still their most successful coach by a landslide. As soon as the trial is over he'll have his choice of jobs...college and pro

Franklin got psu to the final 4 and you said that wasn't acceptable. Is a 1-8 coach acceptable?

When did I say the Final Four wasn't acceptable? Find that because it doesn't exist
Northwestern isn't Penn State--completely different expectations
Franklin had incredible success at Vanderbilt but if he duplicated those win totals here he'd be fired.
Do you not comprehend a difference with expectations between Penn State and Northwestern?

It’s for DC not HC. Who cares. He’d be a great DC at PSU.
How do we know? Pat had never been a DC and likely never called a defense. He went from a short stint at LB coach to HC. Sure, he’s a defensive guy but was never the guy calling the D. It’s not worth it.

Why do people think LBs that have played at a high level and have coached can't call a defense?
