Hey guys, Clemson fan here. I just came here to see what the word on Fleming is from your side. Clemson side seems to think we are gaining some traction.

On another note, always kinda pulled for you guys. My step mother in law's dad was the gymnastic coach back in the day, Coach Wettstone.

Hope you guys have a great day.

How I feel as a PSU fan about the following recruiting efforts:

Fleming:

Bonus - Breese:

Forgot about Breese. Our sites feel pretty good about him too. Should be an interesting few months

Wettstone a legend at Penn State. Thanks for the memory.

Thats what I hear. She and my father in law got married a few years ago after both of their spouses passed away. Think her first husband played for Penn St.

Fleming and Bresee both know the PSU staff well and have been to PSU a lot, so PSU will get a fair shot. Beyond that, you can't really worry about it. They will pick the school that works for them just like very other high school kid picking a college.

The future success of PSU football isn't about two guys, it's about 85 guys and then coaching them up to be successful. And worth noting that the players who have made the biggest impact on the field at PSU tended to be lower-ranked in high school. Barkley was a 3 star at one point. Poz was a 2 star/3 star. Shane Conlan got the last scholarship one year. Jeff Hartings was the lowest ranked member of his recruiting class. It's a psychological boost to land 5 star players, the fact that PSU is getting more 5 star players is a good sign for the program. But just as important are the 3 stars and 4 stars who are still growing.

Great point(s)!

I remember...so long ago :(

"Wettsone died at age 100 in State College, Pennsylvania, in July 2013".[1][2][3][4]

"Eugene "Gene" Wettstone (July 15, 1913 – July 30, 2013), was an American gymnastics coach, known as the "Dean of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches", for leading Pennsylvania State University to a record nine N.C.A.A. championships in the sport, and for coaching the United States men's teams in the 1948 and 1956 Summer Olympics."[1]

Don't answer if you feel uncomfortable, but is your mother in law's name Laurie?

Recruiting for fans is nothing but a rumor mill. Nobody really knows anything for sure just like your friend who feels Clemson is gaining traction. Based on what?? It's no different than PSU fans who feel certain Fleming will wind up at Penn State. Based on what?? No doubt he's a great talent and I'd love to see him in blue and white but I learned long ago to not get caught up in the recruiting noise. Most of rumors begin with people who are simply trying to throw a monkey wrench into someone else's business.

Fleming visits PSU quite a bit, but mainly to see his gf at this point. He's probably visited to see the coaches probably over 10 times.

Lower ranked guys have had the biggest impact? Barkley was a 4* when we recruited him. Millen and Clark, Warner and Blackledge, Dozier and Blair, Carter and Collins, Arrington and Brown, MRob and Williams, and on and on. All were or would have been 4* or 5*.

With Paterno, I never had a good or even 'somewhat comfortable' feeling after missing out on a key recruit. I felt like there was zero back up plan. With Franklin, I feel like he always has a plan, and there isn't such a thing as a 'big miss'. If we don't get Fleming and/or Breese, we will get other quality players. Bank on it.

Julian knows PSU better than any other school he could commit to. If he goes elsewhere, he has made an informed decision. I sincerely hope he stays in Pa. and creates a legendary career for himself. I would love to see him be a Franco Harris like fixture when his playing days are over.
As an earlier poster alluded to.....if we don't get Fleming we will get other top flight WR's. I don't think Coach Franklin makes promises he can't keep or that might destroy the chemistry of the team. I had my doubts about Parson's and CJF gave him some tuff love and he joined the fold. We'll see what happens, but I'm not losing sleep.
One of many things to consider is the young man early on (in articles) expressed a desire to play in a warm weather environment.

Even though it would probably be in our favor, I really hope this kid doesn't make his decision based on where his flavor of the week goes to school. That would be dumb. Go where you feel the best fit is for YOU.

I think the kid has some good, solid adults guiding him through the process. Mick (Grandpa) not only was a pretty fair athlete himself, but coached for decades (mostly basketball). Never met his daughter (Betsy) but she had some college sports experience as well. I think they have done a pretty good job of keeping the young man grounded about his priorities to date.

Guess he doesn't plan on a NFL career then???????

That's a ridiculous statement. Any fool knows that a recruit of his ilk, gets to choose where he spends his college career. If he is fortunate to develop the way he is projected to.....I imagine he will take millions from any team that drafts him. God Lord!

Joe especially tended to put all his eggs in one basket when it came to QB recruiting. During the last 15 years or so of his career, it seemed that we ended up with a lot of Plan B guys at that position.

What year was it where we missed out on Jordan Steffy and Joe went and got like four 2 star QB prospects(IIRC)? Most never played a down.

I think he was referring to your allusion that he may prefer playing in a warm weather climate. NFLers often play in the cold.

I know that. But because he probably can't decide where he lands if and when he is drafted by the NFL has nothing to do with his college choice .....over which he has total control.

2004 class. Daryll Clark, Paul Cianciolo, Adam DiMichele, Kevin Suhey and Anthony Morelli were all in that class. Though didn't Clark go to prep school and actually enroll in 2005? What's his name that went to Michigan was the guy Paterno really wanted though, not Steffy.

He’s been here so many times he won’t need a campus map if he selects Penn State. I believe he has a girl friend attending PSU so that could also be a plus for Penn State. We have a new WR coach so time will tell if that has any impact. I wouldn’t count out any top 5 program but my crystal ball says Penn State.

Undercover troll perhaps??

Only troll South Carolina site from time to time. Matter of fact, they banned me for saying I was more scared to play BC than I was them before the season. Like talking football with different fan bases.
