Pokes preseason #1 based upon summary of individual rankings today. PSU #6 today, but CP makes it pretty clear he thinks PSU is the favorite in March.

There's always volleyball.

And similar to Penn State's Woman's Volleyball team... Penn State can win 6 National Titles in 7 years... similar to the woman winning 7 Titles in 11 years. Actually the Woman's Volleyball team can say of late... at least there's WRESTLING. You were almost on point... CP. It really was the other way around.

And hopefully with the addition of Mark Hall... you can say it's 10 titles in 11 years. At least Penn State has themselves to compete against. Excellence sometimes works that way.

Each magazine/website should just always release either two rankings at the same time:
(1) Body-of-Work Ranking and
(2) Best-Bet Ranking,
or they should release just (2) without a (1). Because (1) is too easy, and everyone will have a similar list. And if someone does do a (1) ranking, it should include bonus-point consideration based on body of work.

It's a no win situation. They have to print the as-of-today rankings, and everybody's opinions from every which team is going to have a different look on who should be given a bonus potential bump, etc. But, as you point out, the (1) ranking kind of seems meaningless by March (because it essentially is).

You can't make an accurate (2) and (1) loses relevance over time. But what, we're just going to sit around and not argue about who is better? C'mon.

I think everyone is thinking Penn State is going to be at or close to the top this year.

All of the rankings are meaningless, except for the final Coaches rankings. They are just something for everyone to discuss until the season starts!

rankings based on prediction are sort of silly. Would rather be in the position of 'I told you so' as you climb the ladder. Besides it is more fun becoming #1 most the time...
