I'm not so sure Rasheed was asked to make 165. Maybe our friendly visitor NYWRESTLE...(full name?) may have heard something at some point.Option 4 gets the best wrestlers on the mat. Can Keener and Cortez cut the weight? Other than Rasheed, PSU usually doesn't ask their wrestlers to cut weight.
But, Option 1 seems the most likely.
No love for Cortez (not ranked) and Cassar (totally dismissed).
Sheesh, looks like a young DT, does he not?For background info
DEVIN SCHNUPP
Class: RS Freshman
Hometown: Lititz, Pa.
High School: Warwick
Weight: 125
Position: 125
Experience: R-Fr.
Major: DUS
Devon Schnupp joins the Nittany Lion from Warwick High School. The 125-pounder brings Warwick's all-time career wins record with him as well as state tournament medals. Schnupp amassed a 156-19 career record, with two years wrestled at 106 and two at 113. He placed sixth in the state as a junior and senior and was regional champion his final year in high school. Schnupp's 156 wins is a Warwick record. He is looking at turf grass science as a major at Penn State.
. . . IMHO, too many variables, and a thin body of work (not his fault) to be showing him a lot of "love" if you're a journalist.
In reverse order:
1. Cassar -- since making the 2015 Junior National FS team, what has he done to force himself into the conversation? All the reports are that the staff really thought they landed a great, sleeper prospect. He may yet prove them correct, but since his injury there hasn't been much from him. Fans keep the positive tidbits alive, but I would not fault a journalist for not making a big deal at this time about Cassar's chances of being in the starting lineup
2. Cortez -- he's suffering from several disadvantages. First, he had to redshirt in 2015-16 due to the B1G transfer rule (whatever the hell that is at this point). Second, he got injured earlier in the 2016-17 season than the team acknowledged, so he was wrestling in a reduced state for the short time that he was in the roster. Third, he indicated after last season that he was moving up to a new weight class for this season. So he's barely wrestled in the past 2 years, was injured for a portion of when he did wrestle last season, and may be at a new weight class. Based on all of that, would you be predicting he'd be an AA? If so, which weight class would you have him at? IMHO, too many variables, and a thin body of work (not his fault) to be showing him a lot of "love" if you're a journalist.
Not sooner than the first day of classes, and no later than the first official practice (October 10th, each year), for rostered wrestlers. Anyone than joins later, certification MUST happen before they are allowed to practice. When do the athletes need to have weights certified?
