I know some believe it should be done away with before Covid due to the concussion stuff but my question doesn’t pertain to that. Our local youth league was cancelled for this fall over Covid concerns and some of the parents and dare I say a couple of head coaches are absolutely infuriated by it. I don’t have a kid involved but the level of animas is a little surprising to me considering the circumstances.

My 8 years old grandson’s league is cancelled. I am very happy to hear it. Although most 8 years old aren’t playing line play as you do in high school and above, missing a year is not going to change his love of the game or hurt his skill development. My son has a “camp” in his back yard with skill development exercises.

Our HS girls soccer schedule was released last evening so I'm thinking the season will be cancelled sometime during this week.

I heard that in Tenneessee, the Governor has said no fall sports are to be cancelled and their legislature is working on a bill to protect businesses, schools, universities, etc from COVID-19 related law suits.

Everything - every activity, business, sporting event, and even church service should be cancelled until around early November.

After that, we can reevaluate.

Why was your league cancelled? Locally one chose to cancel because the insurance cost was ASTRONOMICAL. How much would you have been willing to pay in that circumstance?

November 4th maybe????

To go along with the above responses regarding how early kids should start playing football I would agree with that about Middle School age is where they should start. If they want to do flag up until that so they learn the rules and get skill work then that's fine too but to have 8 year olds tackling each other doesn't make sense to me.
What's even crazier is, I have a friend who coordinates youth football in Anne Arundel County here in Maryland and there are people who want a four-year-old tackle football league.

The insurance wasn’t the problem. It was already underwritten at a good price. Too much uncertainty about the disease and it’s possible impact on kids and what would happen if the states recommendations weren’t followed.

No spell check needed...MtNitt said he was being a dick...most of us are on ocassion.
Where did I say that that? About what? huh? Remember I have half the western hemisphere on ignore, so sometimes I don't know what's going on.

My son’s youth hockey league is still somewhat on the fence. Currently, they’re allowed a limited number on the ice (25 total, inc kids and coaches) and are only allowed to do drills - no scrimmages. They’ll be allowed to scrimmage in the coming weeks, but only 3 on 3 to allow for more open ice. Not sure if/when we’ll get to full games, but given the need at his age to continue developing skills and skating ability, I’m happy he will be allowed to continue to grow.

There’s a lot of morons out there willing to risk death or permanent health issues to young kids.

By driving them places in their car? By letting them play sports in the first place? By letting them play on a playground? By letting them go to school where they interact with others? I mean all of these things have equal or greater chances of death or permanent health issues as Covid does for kids, but parents still let their kids do them.

My personal opinion is that this country should first control the virus like other countries have done, such as south korea and many countries in europe, before doing all those things with kids, or adults congregating, etc. Those countries can safely have sports now.

Not even flag football? I agree about tackle football. Never understood the need for that below 7th grade.
I don't consider flag football to be "football." Boys generally are late bloomers and mature at different rates. Often the 12 year old super star is merely an early developer. I don't know if I object more to 11 year olds playing football or fathers coaching them.
