Former Penn Stater Aaron Maybin helping to raise money for heat for Balt schools

That is awesome (Maybin's efforts, not the conditions). Well done, Aaron. Of course:

Please take this opportunity to remember that Penn State has a culture problem.

I didn't know he is teaching but he has done a lot for the community and kids in Balto city, through his studio and activism.
In 2009, Aaron established Project Mayhem to provide aid, both personal and economic, to help underprivileged and at risk youth excel beyond their current conditions. Through his work with Project Mayhem, Aaron has implemented art workshops and curriculums into several Schools in the Baltimore City area that have had budget cuts due to a lack of State Funding.

2nd most subsidized city in America. I'm glad someone is trying to improve the mess that is Baltimore!

Where is the money being spent in Baltimore?

Good question. The city is hemorrhaging people and money. I know I was one that left after the riots and I lived in a pretty good area called Mt. Vernon.
So with more people leaving less tax is coming in. Also factor in that the city lost a ton of money from the riots and the after effect is now really being felt. People aren't going down town anymore and that includes the Harbor and Fells Point areas. They actually had to have bars close down for Halloween weekend because they couldn't provide security. This Christmas some private store owners bought security because they city doesn't have the money for more police.
The infracstructure is a mess and needs a complete overhaul.
Not to mention all the same old cronies on the City Council that continue to feed them and their buddies at the money trough.

Happy to make a contribution and support my city. Thank you Mr Maybin for launching this cause.

Saw this when it ran on CBS News during the sub zero weather.

Sad part is that if they buy a big batch of space heaters for the schoolrooms, odds are that they would over load an outdated electrical system.
