Temple has named veteran coach Stan Hixon its new wide receivers coach, according to a source.

Hixon is the third wide receivers coach to be hired by new coach Geoff Collins. Frisman Jackson was originally retained from former coach Matt Rhule’s staff, but he later resigned to take the same position with the Tennessee Titans. The Owls then hired Army wide receivers coach Keith Gaither, but he recently resigned to take the same position at East Carolina.

Hixon, 59, has 36 years of coaching experience beginning in 1980 as running backs coach at Morehead State.

He is a former wide receiver at Iowa State, who had 46 receptions for 776 touchdowns and three TDs in his career, which concluded with his senior season in 1978.

What happened at Houston?

O'Brien fired him in January 2016.

“It was a surprise, I didn’t see that coming,” said Hixon, who got the news in a meeting with coach Bill O’Brien on Monday at NRG Stadium in a day where the Texans also fired special-teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky and defensive assistant Anthony Pleasant. “We met and had a discussion and I was told I was relieved of my duties. I don’t have anything bad to say about Bill O’Brien or Rick Smith or Bob McNair. I enjoyed my time with the Texans. I wish them all the best.”

Interesting. Good for him. I thought he did an outstanding job while he was here and was probably my favorite OB hire.
