Franklin & Locksley

Can someone enlighten me why the issue between these two?

I don’t know what the story is between them. They made a bit of a deal about the short 2 second pre and post game handshakes last night but never went any further.

I was wondering that same thing. Recruiting wars can turn personal and you just wonder if there was some stuff going on there. Going way back....Didn’t Joe have strained relations with some people at UVA over the Antoine Womack recruitment?

During the telecast I believe an announcer stated things didn't end so well for Franklin at Maryland. I assume the reference is that Franklin felt passed over at that time. If that is true it appears paybacks are hell!!!

Jf was named coach in waiting over locksley while working for fridge. Locksley and some others took offense and eventually made jf want to get out

That might be true, but MD hired a new AD after Franklin was named Head Coach in Waiting. The new AD may have been less inclined to stick with Franklin.

How about an old fart complaint board where you’d be king
An old fart board is a good idea. To qualify you have to have been alive when Kennedy was assassinated. Wait. That’s cutting it too close. Make the cutoff line the beginning of Ike’s second term (January of 1957 for the non-old farts who don’t know).

This is the story. I assume the relationship between JF and Locksley is what you would expect from two coaches who battle for recruits in the same region, seek to crush each others team, and want to be viewed as better than one another. Now JF and Nardoooozie, thats a different kettle of fish.

What is it exactly that you know after reading this thread. I have listened to interviews of Locksley and CJF talking about the time they coached together. They have both elaborated what they do in common and that they correspond together from time to time away from game. Coaches the compete against each other often do not show a lot of affection to each other. Do you think CJF and JImma have a mutual and deep admiration for one another? Doubt it. People thought Joe and Bobby Bowden had issues with one another. Yet they and their spouses actually vacationed together quite often. The DelMarVa area is rich in FB talent and the battles for recruits there will always exist between these two programs and others outside the sphere of these two coaches. Quite frankly, I think the theory that these two coaches dislike each other is mostly gossip. Both moved on to head coaching jobs. One has been more successful that the other in significant and measurable ways. despite all the guesses in this thread, I think that the topic is much ado about nothing..... out of the ordinary.

here is the deal with what happened at Maryland...Franklin was named the Head Coach in waiting in the 2008/2009 timeframe. Friedgen told Franklin before the 2010 season that he wanted to coach a couple of more seasons. Franklin got tired of waiting around, and had an opportunity to become a Head Coach at Vanderbilt right after the 2010 season. What would you do if you were in Franklin's shoes? Continue to wait around at Maryland for a Head Coach job that may or may not come to fruition even though you were named the Head Coach in Waiting? Or accept a Head Coaching job at an SEC school? Franklin made the right choice by going to Vanderbilt. Yes, there was a new AD hired (Kevin Anderson) and it was well known that Anderson and the Football Coaching staff had issues with one another. Friedgen was fired after an 8-4 season and he was named ACC Coach of the Year, so that should tell you all that you need to know about Anderson's relationship with the coaching staff.

If you are the AD at Maryland and fire the head football coach who just went 8-4 and was named ACC coach of the year that pretty much shows how stupid you are regardless of your relationship with the coaching staff.
