CJF was on a 3-way call with Cain and his mom and dad doing a last minute sales job. The family phoned at midnight with concerns when Franklin was already in bed.

Franklin also has a deep cough and says he has pneumonia exacerbated by the multiple cities and flights he has been on recently.

All the time Franklin spends away from his young daughters. Being on call with recruits. I can see why O’Brien bailed out! Tough job.

No one outworks the guy - kudos to him!

OB didn’t bail because of the workload...

$17,000 per day..... 365 days per year..... living like a modern-day Roman Caesar.... plus outrageous bonuses and bennies.

Tough?

Yep

As Rahne said..... “Tough is roofing houses in 100 degrees (and laying block in 20 degrees)”
And doing it for $17.50 an hour.
I will say roofers don’t take phone calls in bed at midnight with pneumonia

There are legitimate questions that could be asked about our priorities in this country.

But the answers are clear enough- we pay for what we value, not for what we claim to value.

Uh, you are going a little over the top. Are you forgetting how moribund Penn State was when Franklin arrived? Franklin’s salary is in line with all of the other elite college coaches. And what he provides Penn State in terms of increased applications, alumni donations, enthusiasm, and renewed prestige for Penn State makes him a bargain.

People are paid based on how scarce their skill set is, and how much money they make their organization.

Elite college football coaches make their schools a lot of money, and are hard to find. They are only paid so much because we are willing to pay $100 bucks a ticket and millions watch a game on tv.

I suppose priorities are out of whack, but the same can be said about people that have 10’s of thousands of posts on a football message board.

Mine does. I have him on retainer.

I retired early, my bills are paid, and it's too cold to ride- so what I choose to do with my time is what I choose to do with my time. Feel free to make your own choices.

They also are not compensated $17000 a day. No doubt, the guy with the corner office has a ton of pressure, responsibility, and late nights....but he does have the corner office to show for it. Franklin deserves our respect, he does not earn our sympathy.

Also liked NFL money. And disliked Paterno people.
We didn’t make some things easy. Pulling anchor and moving on remains one. Joe earned the loyalty (and benefit of the doubt—still deserves more of both). But that doesn’t minimize the added difficulty of being him under the circumstances. Seems to have worked out for all.

That seems to make everything okay for a lot of folks.
