Franklin says Irvin Charles may be the most talented WR he has ever been around...

I can only remember think of two plays this year involving Charles. The first play was at Pitt where he accidentally led the corner to the ball resulting in the game ending INT.

The second was the 80 yarder against Minnesota that saved the game and turned around the season.

And that did show off spectacular athleticism. Just the effortless way Charles shed the tackler, and then he was full speed in two big strides and easily beating the Minnesota secondary to the end zone.

Thompkins has made some big plays so it is hard to get Charles on the field. But I'm glad Franklin and Moorhead are working at it -- trying to target him at least once a game.

He is good for a bonehead play a game. The thing is you can see him running so well on every special teams play and his hustle is there. He really looks like a freak, but he is a RS frosh who is trying to do too much in limited snaps as a young player. He'll calm down soon enough and he will flourish.

I agree... obviously the staff see's him everyday in practice and for Franklin to say that he must really be impressing them in practice. Finish the season off and a good off season workouts and next year I would expect pretty big things from him.

some serious high praise considering some of the WR's Franklin has coached..... Obviously 1 would expect to see his playing time increase greatly.

Wow strong endorsement for Charles....going into the year, I would have thought that J. Johnson would have been the receiver with the higher upside. Johnson was the yellow light guy last year to perhaps have his redshirt removed, never heard Charles being considered for the removal of the redshirt.

High praise indeed. I thought Juwan Johnson was going to be the better of the two. Great to have so many great WR prospects.

The guy has been on fire on special teams at various times this season. Maryland comes to mind. He was also tempting fate with the officials with some of his borderline taunting and other extracurricular stuff. Never drew a flag though. He did interfere with the punt returner against Iowa and has had at least one other penalty on special teams. He's big, strong, fast and aggressive. Just has to curb his enthusiasm a little.

Funny that he wears #11. He has a little bit of the attitude that some other guy did who wore that number and was quite a presence on special teams before he became a full-time starter.

Someday it's likely Charles and Johnson will be lining up together a lot as O starters. Very difficult to match-up with 2 WRs that big and fast. Each goes about 6' 4" 220 right now. The future is bright.

Coach speak-the guy might need a little confidence boost.
Definitely should motivate the guy to be even more hungry for the field. It's funny. I've watched the guy quite a bit. Doesn't look like he's lacking confidence. He's kinda cocky.

I know 1 receiver he has been around. Jordan Matthews, and he's not too shabby.

Outside of that one play vs Minny, I have not seen anything to suggest he should be a starting WR for us right now. Maybe there is stuff going on in practice that hasn't shown up on yet the field.
I kind of wonder what kind of an OLB he could be.

He's also a RS freshman. He'll grow up.
He'll figure out that he won't see the field on O as much as he'd like if he doesn't become more disciplined. Hard to keep that type of talent off the field. I like that he can watch guys like Godwin and Hamilton - two fine team players who don't necessarily have his physical talents, but are disciplined. I also like that, as someone else pointed out, he has the desire to block.

Coach James Franklin and I agree on few things, but we do concur that you are a certifiable idiot. IC is admittedly aggressive on ST, but he is actually the best blocking WR on roster. You obviously don't watch anything than the "moving ball"

He is undisciplined

JF said most talented NOT the best...yet He obviously has incredible talent and skill levels. He is now working on putting it all together. He has size/speed/athleticism and great attitude to block which for a WR is a huge plus. He needs refining and work and that is what JF was referring to that he has all the tools but hasn't arrived as the best yet.

Anyone know how Irvin Charles clocked out in the 40 at PSU? Tempted to say he turned some heads in that event.

Stick to the BoT and pedophiles. It's what you know and do well. He has had multiple holding calls. Ran into a PR. Dropped a KO. Aggressive dumb young penalties. I never once mentioned his blocking and said he is a freak. Don't be mad at me you made STUPID comments about Franklin and look like an idiot.
You're looking like the "Supreme Idiot" this evening. You only selectively pointed out instances in which IC was flagged, but you conveniently omitted his "great plays" . The kid is raw but on the verge of being great.

I just like his aggressive blocking, speed and catching ability. You, being the idiot that you are, see something else.

I watch replays and have observed IC to be a very valuable contributor to the PSU team. I don't know what you are watching, but something suggests you might be viewing IC through your "racial prism". That is the only logical answer for your overt dislike of Irvin Charles.

I really like this kid. You obviously see things differently, but one has to wonder why.

Way to triple down on stupid. pretty much exactly opposite of my opinion on him. Now I know why you cheer on Jerry Sandusky! It may also be the reason you don't talk football on this site.
I have never "cheered on" Jerry Sandusky. I eagerly await your sharing with this board any post in which I have done so.

Meanwhile, we all have noticed that you attempted to deflect the conversation from your overt dislike of Irvin Charles.

Why do you so dislike this kid? What did he ever do to you to deserve your disdain?

Per the PC today...

Q. Sanders has been a guy that's provided a spark on special teams. We saw Irv back there on Saturday. When did Irv start working in there? What is the plan? Are you going to try to use him here and there? Is?

JAMES FRANKLIN: Irv has been back there pretty much all year long. I think you're going to see over the next couple years Irvin Charles has got a very, very bright future. He is talented, talented, talented, maybe the most talented wide receiver I've ever been around. We all saw the catch that he had and what he was able to do with it once he got the ball in his hands. But there's a lot more that goes into it than that. So we're looking for other ways to get the ball in his hands and give him a chance to make the play. Miles is our guy back there.

But we want to continue creating opportunities for other guys and developing other guys. Obviously that one didn't go as planned. But he is a big, strong, talented guy. I think it was two years ago or a year and a half ago that we did a race of what were considered the fastest guys on the team at that time. We had the Chisena kid, who is running track now, and all those guys raced, and everybody thought it was going to be Saquon or Chisena. And at 6'4", Irv was just like (making noise), and the whole team was just shocked, just looking big, strong, athletic guy like that. Polk was in that. They're all going to be mad and be all over me in the team meeting saying that they won, because even after that race, they all thought they won.

But Irv is a very, very talented guy, and I'm proud of him because he's matured in so many ways since he's been here. Mom and dad are awesome. Really involved, really active. But he's got a bright future. We keep maturing him and keep preparing him every day because we're excited about him.

I think it's counter-productive for people to keep bringing up JS in threads like this. It's precisely what a BOT-bot would do, when out of other arguments. The person who did this may not realize that, but frankly, bringing that up as a way to attack a fellow poster puts a label on yourself that will be hard to remove moving forward.

There was zero reason to bring up JS in this thread. Zero.

I Forgot to add that there's straight line speed, like Devon "Mo Mo" Smith, but can't cut worth a damn, and then there's football speed like Saquon "Sa Sa" Barkley, who can make you break your ankles just watching the moves he makes.

As I said, most of us don't know what is going on in practice. He does play with some intensity on ST's, but he has made a number of avoidable penalties this year. Last week he mishandled a kickoff, but later made a tackle after an interception that for a moment made me think it was Lavar out there.

Keep trying. It's not my fault you're a racist who dislikes Franklin. You instead cheer on Jerry. Sad.
Nice fail.

I think you owe Irvin Charles a sincere apology for being a "prejudicial racist" who only sees negativity through your Black vs. White binoculars.

You are an embarrassment.

LOL. I love calling haters like you out. You talk all this Franklin trash and now need a deflection. You can even sack up and admit you're wrong.
Your words this evening "speak for themselves". I didn't "type" them, you did.

How can you go through life hating on people who aren't "like you"? Very sad.

Meanwhile, I like Irvin Charles. It's not my problem if you don't for whatever reason.

Move the line. I don't blame you.
I don't move lines. I stay on topic and just post the "pesky facts" of which you provided many.

Signing off this evening knowing that I "exposed you". Now everyone knows who you are and what you represent.

Win!!

I'm not sure what you are referring to exactly, but I think you confirmed for me why I have a couple people on the Ignore List.

He has, along with Juwan Johnson, gotten increased playing time over the last few games. However, he is used mostly for downfield blocking during running plays.

He still has a way to go. With PSU up over IU 7-0, I think a pass went through his hands, that, had he held on, would have been a TD.

Teammates echoed that praise following the headman's weekly press conference.

"Irvin Charles is a great player, a great wide receiver. He has a bright future ahead of him," said Penn State cornerback Christian Campbell. "[It's] how strong he his, how tall he is and just the routes that he's run."
"Irv's obviously a physical freak. He can run, he can jump, he can catch the ball. He can do anything you're asking a wide receiver to do," Mike Gesicki said. "And I think with time and with maturity ... I think the sky is the limit for Irv."
