Free Streaming

Outstanding - This a huge improvement for Nittany Lion Fans

Hopefully they are working on much better access to PSU major sports' videos too.

This is huge. I am surprised it's free. This gets me much closer to cutting cable forever. Also the audio feed for PSU radio will be there, so no more Pam Ward or Joey Galloway!!! This is possibly the best news of the week.

Apparently brought to you, at least in part, by Pepsi.

Into free broadcasting, some ads must fall.

This won't include live video of broadcast games. So unless you don't mind just audio I don't see how this moves you closer.

It looks like there are conflicting reports out there. I originally saw this reported via Onward State (link: http://onwardstate.com/2015/08/19/gopsusports-com-receives-facelift-includes-live-game-streaming/), and their article states:

"Free audio and video streaming will also be available at no cost via GoPSUnow, meaning fans will be able to watch a number of different men’s and women’s sporting events streamed live to their devices — including all football, wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s hockey games broadcasted through the airwaves."

The BSD article isn't as committal on football being both live and including video. I guess we'll see this fall. If they do 100% free, live football streaming this is a game changer, that is not a free option for many games at peer universities.

This is wonderful news and a terrific decision by the athletic department. In particular, I know there have been several occasions in the last few years where I've been traveling on a longer car trip when a Penn State basketball game is being played, but because of PSU basketball's abysmal radio network the only radio networks that play the games are low-quality, short-range AM feeds. With this, I can plug my phone into my car's audio jack and stream the game audio with my phone on the PSU website. This is great.

Streaming is mostly audio and some video, accoding to GoPSU

Audio broadcasts of Penn State's football games, voiced by Steve Jones and Jack Ham, will be available free of charge. Home and away men's and women's basketball games, wrestling matches and men's hockey games will also be aired live via GoPSUnow. Head Coach James Franklin's weekly press conference and the Penn State Coaches Show Presented by Pepsi are among the broadcasts that will be free of charge. Several live video events will also be part of the complimentary streaming.

That's awesome news. Thanks for sharing.

I always thought it was really greedy of PSU to make you pay for those internet feeds.
I remember the good ole days where you could find a PSU game on the radio all over the state of PA and
you got about 2 hours of PSU football talk, on a friday night before the game. Not so much anymore.

Secondly. About freaking time for the redesign of gopsusports. That was one of the most f'd up web sites I've
ever seen.

This is so awesome! I was literally looking at the app this morning to pay for a subscription and I was a little confused when it said streaming free for the Temple-PSU game. I don't know how well it will work in stadium as service is never great in stadium, but my dad is ecstatic bc he's a truck driver and whenever he is out of state it is hard to get a radio station.

I plan on trying to sync away games tv broadcast with the radio broadcast through my bluetooth surround sound hook up.

ABC, ESPN, BTN are not paying conference schools millions just for the individual schools to give the product away for free. Use some common sense here. The live video will be of non revenue sports like wrestling or hockey that are not being shown on BTN or other stations. It will be stuff produced in house.

Save yourself a major headache and buy a cheap FM radio for the stadium. If you are able to get the stream to start it will stop to buffer every 10 seconds. The audio will also be far behind when it streamed.

Another option if your dad doesn't want to use up data plan is satellite radio. I often just sign up for football season.

Thanks, yea I figure in stadium will not work to well. My dad has unlimited date, his plan is still grandfathered in somehow, he's doing everything he can to keep it since he is rarely able to be on wifi.

Is there a way to pay for online stream and avoid cable altogether? I have Comcast scheduled to install cable next week just in time for the season to start... but I really don't want it for any other reason.
