Freshman defensive back Isaiah Humphries leaving Penn State

PSU is pretty deep at DB, and the incoming class will only make that more so. Hard to see the field unless you are really talented.

I don't think Humphries even played the 3 or 4 games he could have played in to keep his redshirt.

The weather in SC has been so gawd awful in 2018, that I wonder how some of these kids from warmer climates are adapting? It rained all of July/August with no sun most days, a brief and temperate fall, and then 12 inches of snow 2 weeks ago with winter like temps since then and more rain.

I certainly don’t remember a season with this many ugly football game days (weather-wise) ever in Happy Valley!

Based on his comment I think he doesn’t see a path to playing time and wants to play football. This is why predictions about open scholarship spots are a waste of time

Interesting dynamic with being able to play 4 games and still redshirt. They may have been able to accept that it is best to redshirt in the past, but you wonder how they respond to not playing at all with the new rules. Sends a stronger message to them where the are on the depth chart.

Buried on depth chart & home sick. Writing was on the wall.

Best of luck to him. Next man up!

Yup. Remember he was well regarded and anytime you can pluck a kid from Texas that’s a nice feather in the cap. He gave it a shot and didn’t work out - best of luck to him at his next stop.

Yep, I mentioned this at beginning of season. The new rule is great to get FR some experience but there is a huge downside in that other kids who don't play are going to recognize their future may not be too bright. It definitely makes for a difficult balancing act for coaches.

I agree, I think his comment of "But in order to grow and not lose the passion that I have for football", tells us exactly why he is transferring...that he does not see himself playing much in the future. He was an early enrollee so I assume that he was also disappointed that he did not get any playing time this fall. But his father Leonard played at Penn State so hopefully Isaiah continues to root for Penn State. Good luck to Isaiah in the future.

So we lost 4 guys from last year draft? What effect would that have on our ranking? Do the Other teams in the top 8,10? have the same amount that just came on board in 2018 leaving?

I was born and raised in Western Pa and I hated it.

my guess is that the other top programs have a lot of churn - some directly from them running players out. Urban Meyer has said a few times if you are not getting time and on the depth chart by the second year at tOSU, then it aint gonna happen for you. i think in our case, a couple of these guys were health tragedies. not sure what the list looks like, but bet there are several players who never even got a whiff of the field for the 4 game maz, so have redshirts.

This explains Farmer's season I guess.

And his father replied that people don't know the situation. Human nature to speculate, but none of us know the situation. Wish him the best.

Steve Jones said on his radio show a couple weeks ago that the staff will not play a freshman just for the sake of playing him because of the new rule. The player must show them that they are mentally/physically ready first.

Just a way of opening another scholarship up... Welcome to modern day college football...

Good luck to the young man.
