Two outstanding classes (one in the fold, one taking shape) and the depth chart is really filling up. Impressive athletes AND students, for the most part. It has impressed me that we are not reaching for borderline social misfits who can run, pass or block.. Kudos to the guy calling the shots. He continues to stress "family" like his predecessors, and he will be judged by the quality of the kids he brings in. And he's doing a terrific job.
So with that early success, CJF has probably changed his recruiting objectives .......a lot, since Day One.
My question is: What does he look for going forward?
Does he hold back for more high end players that fit into the PSU mold? Or does he chase 5 star athletes to get the national medias attention? Or does he take more chances on raw kids who have the freakish physical attributes he seeks? ie 6-6 LBers are certainly outside the box. How much longer can he continue to bring in top end recruiting classes? Is it about to become much more difficult to land the top athletes? or is this like a snowball rolling down hill, just gathering masss and momentum?
Whatever path he chooses ( including doing more of the same) his first tumultuous year and a half has certainly shored up the foundations of this program, and of his teams to come. Beginning in a few short weeks, that depth of talent, and character, should begin to show up on the field.
