Gives some counter point to the argument that northern teams can't be good because of weather.

Announcers on Big Ten NW said they had six sweeps in the BIG this year.

Beating Rutgers today 28-13 in a football like score.

How many times do you score 13 in baseball and lose?

Yea, me! I went to Illinois for graduate school. It's rare that I get to feel good about the Illini in sports. I still can't stand that slime beckman. Illinois has always been a distant 2 to Penn State to me in sports, but I will not watch Illinois football until beckman gets fired.

That's a stellar record even for southern or West Coast teams with baseball traditions. Another interesting fact is that both teams in the men's volleyball final last night are from the state of Illinois, and further, from the greater Chicago area, I believe. How do you explain that?

It gives some, but it's a bit of an aberration. It's their best start in history, but they have made the NCAA tournament only 4 times in the last 25 years. LSU, for example, made it 21 times in that period. Florida State 24 times. Miami 24 times, and those are the 1st three teams that came to my mind. Northern teams can occasionally be good, but they cannot be good consistently.

which proves how out of control college sports are to allow any sport to play 50+ games. Total nonsense on a lot of levels; too expensive, too much travel expense, too much time away from studies , too many administrators to arrange for all the bloated schedule. Time to cut back or eliminate. What value is any college sport if it does not affect or interest 90% of the student body? Time to educate, not coach.

What????!!! Cut baseball because you don't like it? If more than 10% of the student body had to care there would be almost no women's sports...

LOL. How about playing so many games and having so many away trips on someone elses money and the STUDENT's time that could be spent on their education. The amazing willingness of football fans to keep paying more and more has led to a very bloated system. I wonder how many six figure salaries are paid in the PSU athletic department to administrators who will never coach a soul. Have you ever watched a woman'd volleyball game or basketball in many past years? You need women's sports but a softball team does not need to play 60+ games a year.
