Game 12: PSU - Maryland, 3:30 EST, ABC

Most of the BWI writers are predicting a close game on Saturday, with PSU winning, but narrowly. MD is one dimensional but their new quarterback is more capable than what we’ve seen from Iowa and Wisconsin and Rutgers. They also have an outstanding freshman running back. We’ve also shown we have trouble with mobile quarterbacks - again see Rutgers. While their defense is their weak point, our offense hasn’t shown it can take advantage (see Rutgers) of that. With possible inclement weather yet again, this could be a nail biter.

Agreed. I do not understand the 13.5/14 pt line at all.

PSU will win, but not sure by how much.

Seeing as it will be Senior Day, I’d like to see Penn State win on a Trace McSorley pop-gun-arm, 50/50 ball to DeAndre Thompkins in the end zone as time expires.

Where did you see their predictions?

Too many unknowns here. Will Twerps be going all out to reach a bowl game or be tamed and exhausted after last weeks emotional loss and emotional season overall.

More tape out now on Twerps O with new QB so no surprises. If our offense somehow finds it in them to be efficient, blowout. If Trace still misses throws, dropped passes, no rhythm, nail biter.

Pigrome either started or saw significant playing time at PSU two years ago. He was ready to become the starter before getting injured.

MD has had unbelievably bad luck with QB injuries the last few years.

I would like to see a comfortable win but it will be close and the outcome in doubt midway through the 4th.

Will we see this again? PSU up by 7. Five minutes left and driving to go up 2 scores. Ball on MD 25. Give to Sanders who fumbles. Yeesh this guy has got to have better ball security. They better be working on that this week.

Understood, but tape from two years ago with different coach, offense and different players pretty much useless.

Ordinarily, when I look at the weather and consider how each of these teams have been playing against common opponents, it looks close to a toss up. Might even give Maryland the edge since they are a running team and we are highly dependent on passing.

I think this game comes down to the play of Trace McSorley. If he throws like he did against Wisconsin in the cold and wind, we should win. Otherwise, I think Maryland wins. They have more to lose (bowl game).

It would be most helpful if Rahne would add more high percentage pass patterns, particularly to Dotson and the tight ends. Catching will be tough, and Dotson has the best hands. I look for Maryland to take some chances and go after interceptions. Get the ball in the hands of Hamler in any way possible. Under the conditions he will be difficult for Maryland to handle. Don't need to throw it long to get the big play.

The unknowns are McSorley, Maryland's emotional status after a tough loss, and turnovers in icy wet conditions. All are huge factors that could swing strongly in either direction. It's not a game I would wager any money.

I've seen a number of forecasting a PSU win based on their performance vs. Wisconsin. The logic was that both Maryland and Wisconsin are one dimensional running teams.

I don't think that's quite fair. Pigrome is not a great passer but he's a lot better than Coan was for Wisconsin. Coan passed for 60 yards against PSU and he threw two of the ugliest interceptions possible. He also ran for negative 43 yards (sacks). Piggy is a better runner than Coan. He's not a great passer either but I think he's better than Coan (Piggy threw for 180 yds vs. OSU).

I expect this to be a very tough game. Hopefully McSorley can get the ball out quick to Sanders & Hamler in space and they don't fumble.

The line on this game is deceptively high. That tells me we cover. I think our defense will have a big game and Trace carries the team on his back once again. PSU 31 - Md 17

We just got back from a walk to the stadium. I've never seen so few people up there at 9:00 AM game day. Strange to walk around and only pass a handful of people - all workers of one type or another.

Sadly, not surprising. A bit of a down year for Penn State versus the previous two seasons. Thanksgiving weekend. Temperature below freezing. It's just maryland. Franklin leaving for any number of jobs ( ).

Phil said that Md is last in sacks in BIG with like 17, but lead in INTs. that is unusual combo given they are not in top half in pass DEF yds.
