Basketball Penn State Basketball falls to Indiana in The Palestra

He was right.
Funny memory. We shot 100 FTs before every practice and the coach recorded the results. I was a bench player but a very good FT shooter. I shot 92% in practice.

In games I shot 78%. My coach asked what the problem was. I told him that in the game I was tired and just got my bell rung. He told me that was a bad excuse.

This loss could bite us come selection time. I would have counted Indiana as a win at home so a loss stings. We now probably can only afford one more home loss to finish .500 in conference overall.

I had a similar experience. Our coach was a taskmaster, I guess that’s the best way to put it. 6’7’ former player and all business all the time. My junior year our best player gets knocked into the bleachers with just a few seconds left and can’t shoot the 1-1 foul shots. Coach walks down the bench and calls me to go in and shoot. I still had my warmup pants on and he’s telling me to go shoot fouls in place of our team captain. I go in and by divine intervention make both, we win the game and my teammates carry me off the floor. Years later after he retired I asked him why he picked me in that situation. He said when he walked down the bench I was the only one who looked him in the eye.

Great story.

I remember a game that we were winning by double digits. I got fouled with just a few seconds remaining and we had scored 98 pts. I made the first but missed the second so we didn't reach 100. A lot of fans booed and I never forgot.
