Generations of Greatness

Ugh- Fran Fisher and Jack Ham honored with on the field with presentations. Lots of old videos. Music from the 50s, 60s, 70s. Cheerleaders and Lionettes wearing old fashioned outfits. What game were you watching?

It was ok but I would be fine if PSU never did any more uniform changes. I like the dark facemasks black cleats and no numbers on the helmets.

If they never showed Paterno, they are simply political cowards.

We get the leaders we deserve.
Did not show him once. The video they normally play where there is a glimpse of team carrying him off the field after the Sugar Bowl and the clip of his cuffed pants was not played. Nothing.

They honor people ever game. I didn't notice any older videos during the game. The music was the same music with a few older songs mixed in. I didn't notice anything different about the cheerleaders and the dance team is on the field for about 60 seconds per game.

The whole thing ended up being lame.

no highlites of great teams that wore the elements that were on the field. How about a Cappy video. How about brief clips of maybe spider saying how the stripes came off or why the numbers came off.

There was one video that at times seemed inaudible at times pregame. Not doing any of those things to me makes it seem the reasons for doing it weren't what we told and it was just a gimmick.

That or everybody is just incompetent in their job.

Agreed. They could have done so much more.

I thought they did an excellent job. I guess some people just weren't paying attention.

I don't think you were paying attention. The male cheerleaders wore khaki shorts and S sweaters, the girls with S outfits also with 50s style pleated skirts, the Lionettes were all dressed in older style cardigan sweaters from the 50s and they always perform throughout the game at the south end zone in front of the student section, Motown music, YMCA, the Stones, etc, and several videos showing old clips of games including an outstanding one at the start of the game which was edited to show both old and new - similar plays from the past and present teams. The end zone diamond pattern, and of course the uniform changes were other obvious (to some of us) references. How did you not notice?

What's the story behind any of that. Oh they sent a press statement out. Saying this was worn when.

Basically Jack was on the field and a video that has been played on NFL films was run. Real original. How about the teams Jack played on at #PSU.

So much was left on the table. So much cool shit

We can thank our thieving turds on the BoT for Joe, Rip and others to be ignored. These jerks are so mired in self enrichment and that of family and friends they want to desperately ignore what made Penn State great. These aren't Penn Staters, they're shitasses as my dad would say.

You could not be more wrong. Not even close.

They're not thieves. They don't hate Joe. They are simply not leaders.

They are people who have done very well for themselves in their lives, and will do anything to avoid being attacked in the press. So, because the insane media ties Joe into pedophilia, putting his image up there is considered risky. Which, with today's media, is true.

They will use the term 'divisive' if pressed to describe Joe's memory, because it is much better than admitting they're cowards.

They are thieves, nothing more. They avoid the past because they don't want their crookedness linked to the persent.

Are you that freaking stupid? Where have you been?

I may be that ignorant. It is entirely possible. What did they steal?

If you're going to say that giving away tens of millions of dollars to victims without a fight is "stealing", then I'm going to correct you. That was an act of cowardice also - just give them the money so you can be on the side that won't get called a 'pedophile enabler'.

If they actually took money for personal gain....then I'm unaware of that.

It was my understanding that Peachy Paterno Ice Cream was sold yesterday as Peach Ice Cream in the stadium. Total slap in the face.

Listen dude I'm not turning this into a Joe thing. It's just butt kissing yes men in positions that have no idea what brand strategy or creativity is or how to mix both

Here is why Jack Ham was honored. Nothing to do with the 'Generations of Greatness' designation.

According to the Hall of Fame's website, the "Hometown Hall of Famer" program is dedicated to honoring the roots of the game's best players with ceremonies and plaque deceptions for the local communities. These are being done throughout College Football.

The 'Official' Ceremony was on Friday night at Pegola Arena.

The uniforms were a mash-up of a lot of past elements. Relax and enjoy. Some of you guys will never be happy.

Then you should explain what they stole.

Dumb. Humorless.

Zzzzzzz. Ineffective snark.

Try Joel Myers no vote contract, all the shit that went on at TSM with no votes to provide "food and services" all the construction Poole got as "low bidder" (LMAO) his brother in law that provided tents and other items for TSM. I know you aren't that "dum".

I'm in Monongahela, see me at the Rib Crib sometime.

When they're done shitting on Joe, many of us will be "happy". Barron is a fat POS. Why hasn't he gone after the NCAA/ BigTen? Delany? Asked for a retraction of all this Ped State Joe Ped shit?

Because he's a fat bag of crap.

I did not watch the game (out of market for BTN, do not want to pay Comcast $9.95 per month just to watch one or two games), so listened to the radio feed and followed the game on Gametracker. I heard Steve Jones mention Jack Ham going down to the field to be honored and wondered whether anything at all was said about Joe Paterno.
It sounds to me like Penn State has become the old Soviet Union and Joe Paterno has become one of the old guard who has been officially removed from the history of the school. It sounds like they have all but airbrushed Joe's image out of old pictures (guess that's next).
I don't understand how they can do this to a man who built the football program, and with it the school, into what it is today. I really like Franklin and the team he's built, really so much in the image of what Joe strove for. What I can't understand is why (presumably because of Sandusky's offenses and the press' reaction to it all) Joe has to be made a non-person. This is why I have trouble taking anything the "move on" crowd says seriously. It smacks of Communist/Totalitarian "history rewrite" - if our school must embrace that philosophy then I can no longer embrace the school. I'll gladly root for Franklin and his guys but cannot support the school leadership. That's an odd dichotomy and I'm not sure I can make it work over the long haul... I suppose as us "oldsters" die off and the young kids say, "oh, yeah, that old guy, Joe...what's his name" then the "move on" crowd will have won. I suppose time is on their side, but then again I don't think the memory of any great man can be completely erased. For me, this has become the "elephant in the room" and the longer that this situation prevails without Joe's legacy being addressed, or Joe being "ignored" or not addressed at all, just leaves me colder and colder towards what once I considered a great school that I was proud to call my alma mater.

Ok with numbers on helmets and stripe. Recollection is that those were a different, more royal blue era. No generation wore white shoes. A one time thing at 79 Sugar Bowl played inside on hard surface turf. Shoes were sneakers and Adidas at that. The socks were atrocious looking.
Idea of throwback uniforms on infrequent occasions is fine by me just avoid the mis-matched
throwtogethers.

I suppose. But that is pretty small stuff when you consider the size of the University. Still, I don't want to dismiss it.

I will say, you, wanting to fight (that's what come down and see me always means) is pretty stupid.

Fight over what? Whether the BOT are only poor leaders or if they're crooks? Ridiculous.

dean said generations of greatness leading into the Ham field introduction so tell your PA announcer that.

as for the mash-up you. no f****g shit. but call a spade a spade and what it was, just a marketing gimmick and that is all. James don't try to pay lip service about this was an idea that we wanted to do it and yada yada yada (cue Jerry and George).

Penn State could have had really cool videos about every aspect of the uniform. 80 percent of the fans have no idea about the grey facemasks, why the numbers came off, or anything. Why they wore the white shoes in the 79 Sugar Bowl.

instead they took the easy way out because they got all they wanted, an alternate uniform. and because the people making the decision have no clue about the direction of branding and imaging. its a mashup of all directions. all the sheep yes men just go along.

what's a better for the atmosphere? 3 songs during a break that we hear every week or watching a 80 second video of Blackledge throwing to Garrity, PG and SC picking off vinny, cue the great deep voice "the 80's were a decade of dominace for Penn State winning two national titles with grey facemasks"....in 1987 there was a change and show the change with the man who works in beaver stadium that was involved with the change.

I mean heck we have never ending music, god forbid if you actually do something about the day you are marketing.

even on favorite god damn jersey day they put up numbers, all be it fake, of the most popular jersey in the stadium on the scoreboard.

they treated Saturday no different that ALL U day which is a pathetic excuse of laziness and lack of creativity and stupidity.

I guess Dave Jones was right in the summer when he wrote about it. Because as a hole, swing and a miss.

Incompetent. It is becoming obvious that if any innovation is involved or thought on actually how to "produce" something media oriented, PSU sorely lacks. They are only good at trying to imitate and by then "that is so yesterday"
