Geno Lewis is transferring. He has been a loyal Lion but unfortunately

He's a great player that made some big plays for PSU in his career. He'll contribute a lot where a program has need for some WR depth.

Having said that, I've been psyched about our WR depth for a while and also hoping Nixon can add to it.

This position is STACKED!

Blacknall
Charles
Godwin
Hamilton
Johnson
Polk
Thompkins

Great player who made some unforgettable catches at Penn State - wish him all the best!

Agree. Made some spectacular catches during his PSU career. Unfortunately, wasn't consistent enough to start for us. You have Charles and J. Johnson coming off redshirts this year. They have to get playing time, and it isn't going to come from Hamilton or Godwin.

Can Franklin block where a grad transfer ends up? Pitt has nothing on their WR depth chart.

was beat out by some better talent. I hope the best for him!

I don't think better talent, just more of the same. The only WRs that have impressed have been Godwin and maybe Polk (still a work in progress). Other than that the others are all the same. Good size and straight line speed. They really lake "football quickness" to get separation.

I would imagine Franklin could block it but seems kind of pointless with this likely being a parting that both sides agreed was best for Geno and he only has one year left.

I have no idea; I thought the one rule/loophole was you had to go to a place where a graduate program was offered that *wasn't* available at your current school. You would think that given the size of Penn State, finding a school that is a) good at football and b) offers a graduate degree Penn State does not would be few and far between.

You have come to this conclusions based upon what? The kids who redshirted haven't played a single down yet.

Theoretically, you wouldn't want to face him in 2016. Coaches generally try to stop transfers to opponents. As I said, I didn't know the rule on grad transfers.

Coach can block it. Rules are the same as those for the one-time transfer (to a lower division) exception. See Joe Flacco.

Yeah, I just don't think it's worth it in this case. Geno left with all class and was a good soldier for the team even in a decreased role. Even if he hypothetically wanted to go to Pitt, Maryland or OSU, I'd just honor his wishes and let him go where he wants (which it sounds like he can do regardless based on some of the responses here)

Yeah, completely disagree. Program comes first. Plenty of places play football that aren't on our 2016 schedule.

Well see. I think some of "separation" drum that was beat was not entirely accurate but thats just MO from what I saw at some of the games.
I also think that maybe that perception of "separation" had to do with the design of the route. I think we see bigger and better things from the new OC. I also think we see the reemergence of Hamilton.

LOL...Ok then :)

I don't think you can transfer within BIG by league policy

By my count that is 5 scholarship players for 2016 not returning:
Anthony Smith
Christian Hackenberg
Austin Johnson
Adam Breneman
Eugene Lewis

Let's say Walker keeps his scholarship thats 66 players under schollie in 2016 so room for 19 in 2016 class right now. I would expect that we are not done with RS JRs not coming back.

Hope Gino takes advantage and gets graduate school education he can use in the future.

Good luck Gino!

Thanks for being a Nittany Lion.

Good for him; still, wonder what he's going to study at Oklahoma?

Moot point - he's headed to Oklahoma

So we're becoming Oklahoma's pipeline for WRs (Justin Brown)? :)

Actually, Brown probably had the best post-Penn State college career of any of the guys that left due to sanctions. Most of the guys that left either washed out or ended up having injuries that ended or limited their playing time.

I really do wish Gino luck at Oklahoma. He's a good guy and stuck with us when the going was tough. Thanks Gino!

He earned his undergraduate degree from PSU in Dec., graduating with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Graduates with that degree often pursue graduate degrees in social work, counseling, psychology, education, or health (several paths). Other avenues of graduate studies are in research.

Geno was quite an athlete, which seems to run in the family. His dad was a NBA draft pick, and his aunt was a star basketball player at Pitt. I believe one of his younger sisters is currently playing basketball at Iona.

I remember when he first came to PSU. The early reports I got from practice were that he was making amazing catches. There were also a few reports that he needed to get more consistent. For whatever reason, those early reports would also be a good summation of his PSU career -- some brilliant, highlight-reel catches and a number of surprising drops.

I wish him the best at Oklahoma, and with his career.

Geno was a good kid. Hope he does well. Was only going to see even less PT this year with Charles and Juwan Johnson coming in off RS.

Many people I spoke to down in Jacksonville confirmed what I already figured, Juwan is an animal looking to be unleashed. Opens door for Florida kid to commit too.

I'm impressed with what little we've seen from Blacknall.

Yikes...wasn't there some family-related reason given for Fera's transfer from PSU? Was it an illness in the family?

Yes. While he was at PSU, his mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Reportedly, the flights to PSU to watch Anthony play became more and more difficult, and that was said to be a big reason why he transferred to Texas.

was beat out by some better talent. I hope the best for him!

Geno was an outstanding representative for PSU and PSU returned the contributions by providing a degree which will serve Geno for the rest of his life. Thank you Geno, good luck at Oklahoma.

I would say that Khairi Fortt actually most likely turned out better, but it is close.
