Every food mentioned here is good, if you wash it down with Boilo...
Official BBQ & Burgers is a great spot for BBQ by McDevitt HS in Harrisburg.
If you want wings, you can't go wrong with The Boro, The Grotto, or Sierra Madre all in the Harrisburg area.
Agree with the OP on Schmidt's Sausage. It is very good.
It gives me an excuse to get broasted chicken from the Wrightsville Inn or go to Smiths for a gigantic cheesesteak.
That sounds like a Gas-X demand generator.I don't know if it's exactly a hidden treasure, but a food I've found since living in Virginia that I haven't seen anywhere else is cream of peanut soup. It's amazing! For me, local is The Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, VA.
#2s. Price does increase greatly going to #1 then jumbo. When I have the time, company, and beer, I don’t mind picking through #2s.How big (small) were those crabs? Last time I was in town visiting family a dozen jumbos were about $100...
When I was at Clarion there was a brother/sister from Emporium. He always said that they only had one stop sign and no traffic lights. My Mom's home town is Emporium PA. This is the home of Luigi's famous hoagies. Luigi's is a little hole in the wall place where, as a kid, we'd but "caps" for our cap guns and have a little money left over for a bite of candie.
Fried Smelts is a western PA thing. I am not sure I am into it but like fried calamari, if you deep fry it enough and dump cocktail sauce on it the taste is just fine.
Gotta go to the Chambersburg section to get the best ones. Is De Lorenzo's still there?Trenton Tomato Pie
damn, your shawarma reference made me think of the best chicken shawarma in Michigan, Bucharest Grill, 3-4 locations in Detroit, but sadly the original location which was by far the best, closed a couple years agoOnce upon a time in Arlington, VA:
American Seafood - Go for the smoked trout. Stay for the key lime pie.
Sadly, Gary retired a few years back, so now I'm probably just left with either the schwarma platter at the Lebanese Taverna (original location) or a Milano sub at the Italian Store.
That Jim's Hot dogs in WM is the most overrated place on the Planet.
DeLorenzos closed their Trenton place but opened a new restaurant in Yardley Pa and I believe they have one or two in the N.J. suburbs in Hamilton NJGotta go to the Chambersburg section to get the best ones. Is De Lorenzo's still there?
I moved out of Bucks County 25 years ago and have lived in Royersford ever since. A year ago I would have said French Quarter Bistro which had excellent cajun-creole dishes and a nice assortment of craft beers, but unfortunately they closed. So if you are ever in the area for breakfast I will give a shout out to Annamarie's Place. Bring your appetite because they have huge portions and if you can eat three of their pancakes they are on the house.

Mar Lin market in Mar Lin, PA (Pottsville) wow their stuff is wonderful, fresh, and reasonable! If I go home, I load up a cooler and take it back!

Nothing like it anywhere! Comfort food bliss!OK, it goes on anything and it has a supernatural backstory. I'm in.
One of my local favorites:The food threads got me thinking about those restaurants, food products, or recipes that are unique to certain towns. You know, the food the locals know about and treasure.
So add your local favorite to this thread, and give us enough details so that we know where to go to enjoy it ourselves. The Coal Region has to have a million places for this.
My Harrisburg favorite? Schmidt's Sausage, Eisenhower Blvd., suburban Harrisburg, Dauphin County.

My family has been going to this family owned business for six decades. This is a butcher shop where it is made, so do not expect a restaurant and take out. The hot smoked sausage is the best sausage I have ever had. Nobody else is even close. My son enjoys the extra hot links on a good Philly roll. My favorite is the hot smoked simmered in Silver Floss sauerkraut for an hour or two. DO NOT miss this place on your nest trip to Harrisburg. It is only a couple minutes from the Turnpike. The best version is the large double links. 3 double links might set you back about $20, but it will be worth it.
And here I am in Brigantine (NJ) thinking “wha??”One of my local favorites:
Fish Tacos.
Brigantine , Del Mar Ca.
Watch the thoroughbreds race at the Del Mar track while sipping margaritas on the Brig outdoor deck.

From where I live now is Helen’s Sausage House in Smyrna, DE. Open from 4AM to noon. Cash only. The sausage sandwiches are great, but my favorite is the pork chop sandwich.Every food mentioned here is good, if you wash it down with Boilo...

Which restaurants, or are you not allowed to tell?I make and sell cheesecakes to restaurants in NEPA. I use my grandmother's recipe and they are crazy tasty.
Thanks. This may make for a good road trip on my bike this weekend. My current locale near Kennett Square, PA has alot of good mom and pop Mexican restaurants, including a unique Mexican ice cream store called La Michoacana.
The Philadelphia Inquirer recently ran an article on it:
