Give me a food "hidden treasure" from your town.

Ted Clark’s Mac and cheese in Waverly, NY.
Anything on the menu at Four Rivers Barbecue in Longwood, FL.

Another good one. Shakedown BBQ in Grantville. Right next to Penn National casino dont miss it best BBQ in central PA.

It gives me an excuse to get broasted chicken from the Wrightsville Inn or go to Smiths for a gigantic cheesesteak.

The broasted chicken is good, but I prefer their crab cakes. Giant lump meat with barely any filler.… SO good. Their Mac n cheeses are great too!

Funny story about eating in Wrightsville. Wife and I went to John Wright one day for lunch. She had never played cornhole before, so we went to the yard to play cornhole while we were waiting for our food. All of the sudden BAM! One of the umbrellas from the tables got picked up by a sudden gust of wind and the ornament on the top smacked my wife directly on the top of the head. Slight concussion. Spent a year trying to get them to pay for the medical bill from the York Hospital when she got checked out. She will never go back to John Wright again, which is a shame, because they have good food and the atmosphere is great eating there at the river.

My favorite place back home was the Collinsville Drive-In. I'm a bit biased because it was my first job in high school, but they have some of the best fried chicken I've ever had, and their chop steak subs were amazing! Great ice cream as well. Whenever we would win a little league game, our coach would take us to "Joe's" and get us ice cream cones. They had larges, smalls, then for baseball teams they would do like a half-small size that cost a dollar. Ice cream for the entire team for 15$.

Here in NC, It's Marybill's Café and Elbow Room. They don't have very many "diners" down here. It's basically waffle house or IHOP. Marybill's is a classic diner like they have up in York that I was used to.

Screamers from Tony’s Lunch in Girardville

The pickle/mustard/onion hot dog style of Easton,PA of which Jimmy’s is most famous. Every town seems to have a famous hot dog place. The pickle/mustard/onion style may not be the best, but I think it’s pretty unique to the Easton/Phillipsburg area.

I don't know if it's exactly a hidden treasure, but a food I've found since living in Virginia that I haven't seen anywhere else is cream of peanut soup. It's amazing! For me, local is The Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, VA.

That sounds like a Gas-X demand generator.

How big (small) were those crabs? Last time I was in town visiting family a dozen jumbos were about $100...
#2s. Price does increase greatly going to #1 then jumbo. When I have the time, company, and beer, I don’t mind picking through #2s.

My Mom's home town is Emporium PA. This is the home of Luigi's famous hoagies. Luigi's is a little hole in the wall place where, as a kid, we'd but "caps" for our cap guns and have a little money left over for a bite of candie.

Fried Smelts is a western PA thing. I am not sure I am into it but like fried calamari, if you deep fry it enough and dump cocktail sauce on it the taste is just fine.

When I was at Clarion there was a brother/sister from Emporium. He always said that they only had one stop sign and no traffic lights.

Last name was Mahlen or something close to that. He played basketball on the blacktop barefooted. I never saw such huge blood blisters before. Super nice guy.

Gotta go to the Chambersburg section to get the best ones. Is De Lorenzo's still there?

I moved out of Bucks County 25 years ago and have lived in Royersford ever since. A year ago I would have said French Quarter Bistro which had excellent cajun-creole dishes and a nice assortment of craft beers, but unfortunately they closed. So if you are ever in the area for breakfast I will give a shout out to Annamarie's Place. Bring your appetite because they have huge portions and if you can eat three of their pancakes they are on the house.

Once upon a time in Arlington, VA:
American Seafood - Go for the smoked trout. Stay for the key lime pie.

Sadly, Gary retired a few years back, so now I'm probably just left with either the schwarma platter at the Lebanese Taverna (original location) or a Milano sub at the Italian Store.

damn, your shawarma reference made me think of the best chicken shawarma in Michigan, Bucharest Grill, 3-4 locations in Detroit, but sadly the original location which was by far the best, closed a couple years ago

DeLorenzos closed their Trenton place but opened a new restaurant in Yardley Pa and I believe they have one or two in the N.J. suburbs in Hamilton NJ

I grew up in the Morrison's Cove area of Pa. South of Altoona and north of Bedford.

The small town VFWs and other clubs in the Cove often have what they call Ox Roasts. I've not seen it elsewhere, but boy do I love the stuff. It's slow roasted roast beef that is then ground and served on a roll with sweet pickle relish. I can wolf down a million of them.

The food threads got me thinking about those restaurants, food products, or recipes that are unique to certain towns. You know, the food the locals know about and treasure.

So add your local favorite to this thread, and give us enough details so that we know where to go to enjoy it ourselves. The Coal Region has to have a million places for this.

My Harrisburg favorite? Schmidt's Sausage, Eisenhower Blvd., suburban Harrisburg, Dauphin County.

http://www.schmidtssausage.com/

My family has been going to this family owned business for six decades. This is a butcher shop where it is made, so do not expect a restaurant and take out. The hot smoked sausage is the best sausage I have ever had. Nobody else is even close. My son enjoys the extra hot links on a good Philly roll. My favorite is the hot smoked simmered in Silver Floss sauerkraut for an hour or two. DO NOT miss this place on your nest trip to Harrisburg. It is only a couple minutes from the Turnpike. The best version is the large double links. 3 double links might set you back about $20, but it will be worth it.
One of my local favorites:

Fish Tacos.
Brigantine , Del Mar Ca.

Watch the thoroughbreds race at the Del Mar track while sipping margaritas on the Brig outdoor deck.

,,,,cheers

Hey C-Mark......I had some Plaza pie a couple weeks ago. The graham cracker pie is just like my grandma used to make.
I travel through that area from time to time. I missed the Plaza while it was shut down due to a fire.
I like to stop for a meal at Chido’s in Warren, Nunzi’s in Erie or Pine Junction near Findlay Lake. And I always bring a cooler to stock up at Bell’s Meat Market in Kane. I’m always pleasantly surprised with what I find at Bell’s.
I’m guessing you are familiar with all or most.

If you ever get down to Raleigh, NC, check out Neomonde (the one on Beryl Rd). They have, to this day, the best chicken shawarma I've ever had and that includes shawarma from Iraq, Afghanistan, Amman... etc

Every food mentioned here is good, if you wash it down with Boilo...
From where I live now is Helen’s Sausage House in Smyrna, DE. Open from 4AM to noon. Cash only. The sausage sandwiches are great, but my favorite is the pork chop sandwich.

From a prior life, Jimmy’s Quick Lunch in Hazleton. The hot dogs on a steamed roll, spicy mustard, chili & onions (no onions for me,sauerkraut instead). I could plow down 4 or 5 and wash it down w/ a Farmer’s Iced Tea. I couldn’t bend my fingers for a few days after that.

Excellent Trout fishing in and around Emporium. We used to go there every April and stay at this hole in the wall motel. I think it was the Buttonwood? Their restaurant did have the best pancakes that I can remember.
