For years I have made the argument that for us to ever tackle our debt we might need to consider some extra taxes on the rich. [it is not for this thread but i prefer "other" ways than income tax increase]. Our economy is being restructured in such a way that the rich are getting richer.
However I have also contended until anyone should support any tax increases the American people need to feel their money is well spent. I remain somewhat doubtful but more encouraged than in many years.
Between Trump's boldness and Musk's sheer force of will we are actually hearing about things happening.
USAID, Dismantle DOE, Federal Severance packages etc etc. We have a long long way to go but at least right now the D's have been so exposed they haven't been able to take the spending high ground they usually do.
I think it would be smart for the administration to do a small PR shift and start identifying areas where they KNOW they will spend money and say they will use money saved from these iniatives.
For example we know the FAA will need to spend money on ATC and updated systems. Trump could use the bully pulpit and Musk via X and get specific.
"I propose effective immediately we cut $20 billion frm USAID that had been used for xxxxx and move it to FAA to hire xxx thousand more ATC and update our traffic control system.
That is just an example but by specifically identifying cuts and specifically identifying spending he could avoid the age old "R's want to throw granny off the cliff" strategy or in this case "R's don't want to make the skies safer".
