Thursday through Saturday at The Penn Stater for $299/night. My wife and I decided to stay another night and fly out on Monday so we cancelled our first reservations and booked rooms for Thursday through Sunday at $147/night. so 3 nights $900 - 4 nights $600. If this is really correct (I do have a confirmation with the details)and you really want to leave on Sunday you can reserve and pay for 4 nights but only stay 3 and save $300.
My wife booked this online.

Great for you and the wife. Only at Penn State would this revenue model seem logical.

Actually, that's not all that unusual. Often, you can do substantially better, price wise, with airline flights if you stay an extra day (if that moves you from a busy day to a non-busy day). There are actually a few web sites that I've seen (forget their addresses) that show consumers how to play this game to their advantage. Hotels will play the same game. Several years ago I was in a situation where the only hotel room I could find in a city was an expensive suite. However, by staying until Monday, the price per night was substantially less than what I was facing for just a Friday and Saturday stay.

Sounds as though things are working out well for you with regards to this trip.

I'd suggest that you not spend months looking for better air fares. If I read your latest plans correctly, you're returning to NO on Monday of Thanksgiving week -- the busiest week of air traffic in the US. Perhaps you'll get lucky, but I don't think you'll find prices dropping for flights on Monday. You may, however, find that by not returning on Sunday, your air fare will be less than the options I posted for you earlier this week, as Sunday was the day in your previous plans that was causing problems from a scheduling as well as a price perspective.

Thanks Tom for all of the information that you have posted on this subject. My wife was impressed and also thanks to all that posted as we read and considered all of the suggestions.
We have booked our airfare as well.
Now if you can only score me some decent tickets (I have an extra $300 to spend) :)
