It's very frustrating that for the better part of the 2000's era that Ohio State and Michigan have dominated Penn State. No way do you need to do some of the strategy moves made today. Mindless to go for two near the end of the half. Just not needed in anyway there. Penn State chased that point all day. Just panic moves.

Going for 2 in the first half was a bad move and he should have punt with 4 minutes left in the game.

A bone headed decision for sure but not a panic move. The panic move was going for it on 4th and 6 at your own 30 with 4 and one half minute to go.

He likes to put the defense in a spot where they are likely to break so they give up a cheap score late. That way nobody clamors for Diaz to be HC here or elsewhere.

It doesn’t matter. Unless someone comes up with $55,000,000 to make him go away, you’re all whizzing in the wind. He will be at Penn State.

Yep. He's going nowhere.
cant see anything like that even being considered until the amount to get out of it is under 10 million. and if psu keeps going to ny6 bowl games, they will just be fine with that for the next 50 years. psu historically hangs onto coaches forever even if they are really bad, and Franklin is only losing the big games. not sure if psu even considers that to be a problem

He makes them in EVERY big game
And that’s the big problem. He NEVER learns or adjusts.

It’s almost like he never dissects a game and focuses on what went wrong that needs to be fixed for the future. It’s just more of this next game ‘Rutgers, Rutgers, Rutgers’ mantra nonsense. It’s to the point where you see the same mistakes by players and coaches from week to week to week.

Did he learn from the late panic 4th down play instead of punting at Ohio State? Nope. We saw it replayed today against Michigan.

The issue is our offense sucks.

Everything else is just ancillary.

We run a HS backyard game offense.

Or going for it 4th and 1 with an empty backfield (Allen was split wide right). FWIW Allen had 72 yards on 12 carries.

Bonehead of all bonehead plays.

Michigan DC wanted us to throw.

We average 3yards per attempt.

Our passing game is laughably bad and yet we continue to force it.

This. You can't beat great teams when you yourself can't do anything.

Those who were upset about the 4th down attempt are the same ones who would have cried "you gotta go for it eventually" had we just kept punting.

No. Punting was obviously the correct thing to do this week and at OSU. You have to be delusional to think otherwise at that point in the game. Franklin is delusional. No other possible explanation. At least now I understand.

Not me! Apparently I believe in our defense more than Franklin does.

Most outside observers would regard a 10-2 or 9-3 regular season record, combined with a win in a decent bowl game, as a very successful season. Having followed PSU football for several decades (most especially during its Big Ten era), I no longer feel that way. They just HAVE to find a way to beat Ohio State and Michigan every now and then. 4-16 just does not get it.

It will take a while for the sting of this loss to subside.

They're really roasting Franklin over on the MGoBlog board over those calls and basically saying that he just panics in big games. I believe he still had 2 time outs left late in the game when he made that decision to go for it

Losing 17-9 is no different than 24-15. Maybe yall wanted Corum to have a 75 yard TD instead of 30. Game was over.

Early on at his time at PSU, Franklin always seem to have a head scratching decision in multiple games every season. I actually think he had improved and most of the games have pretty normal albeit unremarkable coaching decisions. But then Ohio State or Michigan comes around and we make multiple completely bizarre decisions. Like he’s saving up all the idiocy for those games.
