Anyone try that c3i wedge? I have heard some pretty good things about it, anyone using it? Would love to buy it and get rid of my other 2 wedges, would allow me to put an extra iron in my bag...

That is a 65 degree wedge, good for getting out of the sand and short shots. A friend has one and gets about 50 yards max out of it. You need other wedges in your bag

Thanks...I carry 4 now...was thinking of getting this wedge and getting rid of my 56 and 60 degree....but not if it's not a good club.

Most of the low handicappers I play with carry three wedges. Usually a pitching wedge, sand wedge and either a gap wedge or lob wedge. I carry only two - pitching and sand. I got so used to my pitching wedge that I preferred cutting down my swing a bit rather than using another club with a higher loft. People occasionally get attached to particular clubs.

Funny - I have a c3i on order and should be getting it next week.

For whatever reason, I struggle with my 56' Sand wedge on lob shots 30 yards and in. Blade'em, send them way over, or when needing to go 30 yards, I go 20 (and into a bunker)... GHIN is 22 so I definitely will take any help I can get...

If I like the club, I would probably go with Pitching / 56 Sand / 65 c3i in my bag....

I'll post my comments in 3-4 weeks...

I found an old Allien sand wedge on EBay for about $35 with a graphite shaft. I find it very playable from anywhere inside 50 yards. It looks like ET.

It’s not the head of the golf club, it’s the head of the golfer.

There are SO many ways to play the game and SO many club options, it’s what you become comfortable with and what you believe in. CONFIDENCE is THE key.

I’m sure no one in the USA carries the same collection of clubs that I do. Some of my club members laugh every time they play with me, but they all agree with “it doesn’t matter how, it matters how many”.

- Driver, Mini-Driver, 5, 7 & 9 wood
- 5 & 8 iron
- a 41* niblick
- pw, 56*, 62*
- 3 putters (one used as a “Texas wedge”)

Is the c3i a good club? If it works for you and you have confidence in it, yep, it’s a good club!

This is a post every weekend duffer should read and get through their head. I played with a guy who hit his 6 iron off every tee and every fairway until he was within 150 yards. Every tee shot was in the fairway. And every approach shot was down the middle. He shot 80's / 90's all the time. His theory? He could reach any par 4 under 320 in 2 and any par 5 under 480 in 3. Add one shot to each hole if longer than his max. He was pretty much playing bogie golf. Why? He had supreme confidence in that one club and he hit it true every single time.

I think you need to replace that 9 wood with a Mashie Niblick. I’m having my Mid Mashie re-gripped for the season.

MJG - At this stage of my life it is bogey golf because, like your friend, I can’t hit the ball far enough anymore. Hard to accept because for many many years I carried a single digit handicap.

Good days are now mid-to-high 80s with an occasional 83-84, other days low 90s. The good days are the days when I’m just patient and the short game is on. The other days is when I make bad mental decisions.

Our club champion gave me a wonderful compliment several years ago: “You know your game better than any other member here knows his game.” It is fun when the guys that can hit the ball 100+ yds longer than I can are still searching for their tee shot long after I’ve hit both my tee shot and my second shot right down the middle.

NZ - I’ve always liked woods better than irons. These days I can hit the 9 as a little half-swing bump-and-run from 100+ yds or can hit a full 9 140 yds. It’s probably the most comfortable, confident, reliable club I have.

I used to be happy shooting a round in the 80’s (less than 18 over is “under par” for me). Now I’m happy to get in two rounds a month. So breaking 100 is satisfying. I’m now old enough for the senior tour and the toughest part is transitioning to my new abilities. The best thing about golf is the handicap concept. It levels the field. I play with the same guys, so when we decide to be competitive, we can make it fair.

I’ve kidded with my head pro for about two years now that I’m gonna take my club’s official scorecard to Kinko’s and have them print up 100 scorecards for me, identical with the only difference turning the par 3s into 4s, the 4s into 5s and the 5s into 6s. Instead of 35-37=72, it’ll be 44-46=90.

I’m sure there’s a Yogism lurking nearby!

My Dad has shot his age almost 300 times (on Tillanghast greens no less) Illy. There's always something to play for and room to get better.

I shoot my age every time out. Sometimes I hit it on the 16th hole.....more often on the 15th hole or the 14th hole.

I think I agree entirely with that observation - I’ve never seen that combination. The putter
Config takes the cake right there. :p

Gardiner Dickinson once scoffed at my old boss for carrying three wedges. Looked it as a band aid for a lack of imagination basically.
