Good coaches win close games

Funny thing, I seem to remember a very conservative coach who rarely went for it on 4th down and when he did his teams usually made it. When given the opportunity he almost always took the points. People in the stands frequently bitched and moaned but he managed to win an awful lot of games. I think it was 409. There were an awful lot of close games in that 409. Maybe there's a lesson to be learned here.

Yeah…I didn’t really want to get into a Franklin/Paterno comparison, but I would love to see the stats (especially during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s) of wins vs losses by a TD or less during that timeframe. It could be my imagination, but I bet the record would be interesting.
