Great news for Rutgers and their fans

They will soon be rolling in dough when politician Lesniak gets that $75 million in tax payer dollars approved. Too bad they have to split it equally 3 ways with two other State Universities. One of which has already raised $150 million on their own for athletic facility upgrades.

NJIT or Rowan raised $150mm? Which one of them sold their campus?

NJIT raised it. Alumni who care plus other sources. I just read that Rowan may locate their school of medicine at NJIT. Rutgers made a run at annexing NJIT a few years ago and NJIT fought it tooth and nail. They wanted nothing to do with Rutgers. Maybe that helped motivate the giving. I don't know. Ironically, Rutgers Newark is right across the street and is broke.

I don't know why we do this. This thread makes us look snobbish, petty and Pitt-like.

We are...Penn state and what we post should make us proud, not Pitt-like.
I can't disagree & yet the tone of the posts is very mild compared to what we've endured from both Rutgers & Pitt fans. Rutgers fans are the worst in the BigTen. I rejoice in their woes. I know that makes me a bad person but when it comes to Rutgers I can't help myself.

Normally I would agree with you but Rutgers fans are as bad as pitt fans and deserve any beatdown we can give them. They are a joke and never should have been invited. This is just more proof that aren't an elite university.

I think that if we are to proudly yell "We are...Penn State", we should be raising the bar and adhere to our standards which I hope are above any pettiness of the lessor fandoms.

When I look at the book of Penn State standards I look to page 187, paragraph D, subparagraph y, commonly known as the Rutgers/Pitt exception. Trust me. We are OK in this thread.

NJIT raised $150mm for athletic facilities? I don' think so.

Rutgers never "made a run art NJIT." In 2003, then governor McGreevey wanted to merge Rutgers, NJIT, and UMDNJ. Proposal went nowhere and there was as much opposition from folks at Rutgers, save L'il Dickie, as anywhere else.

Can't see how Rutgers-Newark is broke. It's not a separate entity and is part of a consolidated Rutgers. Folks in Newark, as well as Camden, have complained for years that they get the short-end of the stick financially and their comments are legitimate, but it's not as if Newark is on the verge of closing shop.

As for Rowan opening a branch of it's osteopathic medical school (it also has an allopathic medical school) on NJIT's campus, might happen and might not. Unfortunately for them, George Norcross doesn't have near the clout in Essex County than he does in Camden/Burlington/Gloucester.

There will only be one time this year I root for Ohio State, and one time I root for Michigan. Both times will be when they are playing Rutgers. Hope Ohio State scores 100.

Speaking of joe and Rutgers, does anyone remember this? I love this every time I see it. Now is this considered classles or just. I'd say the latter.

Never said Newark was closing shop or separate from consolidated Rutgers. OP used the word broke, figuratively I assume, and I just repeated it. Anybody even remotely aware of NJ politics knows it is a cesspool, a North, South, County to County battle ground and the State Universities can be pawns in the battle. One example is the Lesniak proposal that would have zero chance to be approved, if it didn't let lowly NJIT and Rowan get an equal share with the "Flagship Rutgers". Like everything else in Jersey the early numbers are hard to believe because they rarely come close to the actual cost. Rutgers upgrade to the current stadium was way over the published budgeted cost. Do backhoe operators really get $70 an hour and a dump truck driver on second shift $100.00 an hour, mandated by State wage laws? Looks like the projection for the approved event center is North of $100 million, the school is raising half so maybe that is where I remember that number from. Perhaps someone said the construction will end up costing $150 million? No matter the scenario, you were right about the private funds not approaching $150 million. Bottom line is they plan to break ground in the fall, while the Flagship University, say what they will, isn't close. NJIT did in fact want no part of Rutgers and with good reason.

Delany went to Rutgers? Maybe for a cup of coffee once or Twice.

Yea, 'wa-dever....can u explain what this ridicous statement from Doofus Delany even means (article it was excerpted from linked directly below it)....last time I checked East Brunswick is SE of Exit 9 on the NJTP and more associated with Princeton and the Philly-related town of Trenton (as well as the link to the PA Turnpike @ Exit 6) in terms of "regional location" than it is with the North Jersey Towns, Jersey City, Hoboken, which are directly across from Manhattan (e.g., "NYC"). You would think somebody who grew up in North Jersey - South Orange - would know that... East Brunswick is not considered a NYC suburb of any kind, associated with NYC (e.g., Manhattan) or considered a quick jump into "The City" by anyone I know (and I've lived in NYC Metro Area for over 30 years). Doofus Delany said:

"No buyer's remorse at all. When I go to Jersey, I go to New York, I go to support, not to judge."

Here is link to article quote is excerpted from:

Darkness On The Edge of Town: The Big Ten Bets Big on Joisey.

Does Doofus Delany's "Joisey Gibberish" come with a decoder ring? Could I get a translation on what that nonsensical BS statement by Joisey Jim Delany is even supposed to mean of imply????

One would also think that someone discussing geographic proximity of Rutgers to other locales would know that the school is in New Brunswick, not East Brunswick. No matter, both municipalities are within the NYC DMA. As far as distance goes, New Brunswick is 40 miles from Manhattan (and to the nearest point in NYC, 15 miles from Staten Island), but half again that from Philadelphia.

You might find that chewing on a Hereke is more agreeable to your constitution.
