Which would you rather have? It's obviously a subjective thing and opinions will differ. As for me, I'd take the green jacket over any of the others. In a heartbeat. After that, I would put the U.S Open and British Open titles in a dead heat. The US Open is great but, IMO, the British Open has really come on in recent years, given its international flavor and the fact that international (i.e., non-American) golfers have come to dominate the game. (Given how venerable the British Open is, I realize it sounds ironic to say it has "come on in recent years," but that's how I see it. That's surely a very American perspective.)

The PGA is a major, but it's so far back of these three that it's not even funny..

None. Land Grant Trophy, baby. We will manufacture a rivalry, no matter how many lives it costs.
Now THAT might be the funniest one-liner I've seen on the board for a good long time.

No surprise here I'm sure on my opinion. I'll be far in the minority and I do not care (because I am right).

US Open followed by The Masters, the British (which really is a fabulous tournament) and the PGA Championship (Glory's Last Shot - tremendous tag line). They're all great. Which of your children do you love the most?

Huh? Masters is so much easier to win (take a look at the average winning score and how many players break par, etc...) -- in other words, the Masters does not test your game the way the best US Open Courses do....not even frigging close. Take Oakmont for example -- there are tons of players that regularly break par and go low in one or more rounds at Augusta every year that have zero chance of sniffing par or making the cut at Oakmont when it hosts the Open or PGA. Of the three tournaments, the Masters is probably the easiest for a Larry Mize to win (e.g., good but not elite) if they get in a zone and on a streak because the course does not severely punish "marginal flaws" in their games that a US Open Course would expose. If you have a good short game and can putt, even if you don't have superior length and accuracy (e.g., can hit your long irons "high and with a slight fade" -- in other words, lands softly and will hold a green) you can still score at Augusta.....this player has ZERO CHANCE at a course like Oakmont, Winged Foot, or the other top US Open venues.

Green Jacket. I would like to play Augusta National and would be able to do so until I'm old and stink.

bxle, Cinderella Boy here at Augusta. It's in the hole!

Seriously, from Lafayette's choices, I'd have to go with the Green Jacket.

The field isn't as good in the Masters either. The TPC is harder to win than a green jacket. Better finishing holes too.

I'll take the Jug. I have always thought the courses and the conditions were the toughest of the four. I know the US Open is hot and deep rough, fast greens and all that. If you eat and drink enough you can tough it out. The British is another story...43 degrees and raining sideways and winds blowing straight at you, killing distance and playing with every shot, even putts. Knee high rough everywhere...Pot bunkers where you can take a 7 or an 8 while freezing your balls off. I have always felt that in a given year the British Open winner is just a notch above the other three winners. They're all great, but just my opinion since it was asked.

A green jacket, the Claret Jug, and the U.S. Open trophy in that order.

US Open. It's our National Tournament and always the one I putted for on the practice green. Nothing against a green jacket, however!

A 4 trophies could be considered a thing of beauty for an accomplishment that deserves recognition. But....the Claret Jug.....it is smaller than the others and is delicate in looks and feel. Gene Sarazen's Claret Jug is in the trophy case at the Island Golf Club on Marco Island, FL (south of Naples) where he spent his last years as Head Pro....walked past it many times.....gorgeous.
