Issued a statement tonight denying any wrongdoing (ha) and saying U of I violated the terms of his contract with their actions today. He will fight for his reputation and his legal rights.

(His reputation hit the dumpster years ago.....both on AND off the field!)

This is ugly and going to get a lot uglier.....U of I's AD will be gone before the end of the calendar year.

He left his reputation in State College, what little he had in the first place when he arrived there. SCUMBAG.

Just saw he doesn't get the $3.1 million left on his contract or $700,000+ buy out.

Can't say I'm surprised he's fighting back for his reputation- there are a bunch of football players publicly supporting him. With the charges that the basketball and soccer coaches at Illinois were 'abusive' as well he will likely argue he was a scapegoat to save the university's reputation and to dump a high salary. Should be an interesting trial to follow...........Bet it gets done before CSS despite starting at least 4 years after CSS were charged. ;)

There's obviously a backstory on Beckman of which I am unaware. Too many posters here are really negative on him for it to be otherwise. But it should hardly be surprising that he would fight his summary dismissal, especially if the University of Illinois is seeking to avoid paying his contractual buyout. Accepting that would mean not only that he is out the buyout money (whatever that sum is) but it would also mean that he agreed the University had cause to fire his ass. He'll have plenty of difficulty finding a new coaching job in any event. Adding that kind of admission is like agreeing to have an anchor tied around his ankle.

When the NCAA announced the sanctions on PSU,and said that our players were free to leave, Beckman sent the Illinois coaching staff to State College to stalk our players. He is a douchebag of the highest order and deserves everything that is happening to him.

After that went down Mike Mauti had some choice words directed at the UI coaching staff and backed it up with a thrashing on the field a few weeks later. If I remember correctly he had 2 INTs that game.

If I recall correctly, Mike Mauti was said to have been banging his head on a locker prior to that game, he was so psyched. According to John Bacon, Mike planned some choice words for Timmy at that game but instead chose to look at him and spit at his feet. BOB's "handshake" with Blechman at the end of the game was classic.

I was there. Mauti was an animal that day.

I missed the handshake. What happened?

Attended Happy Hour last night with some friends and one said Beckman personally came to PSU to recruit and one PSU commit or player went to Ill. I recall the ILL assistant coaches visiting PSU to poach players but not Beckman and I don't recall a single player going to ILL. Am I mistaken? ps. This particular guy is a PItt grad.

I don't know if beckman made it to the Penn State campus, but some of his assistants definitely did.

An offensive lineman from Illinois who was way down on Penn State's depth chart did transfer to Illinois.

Why were you talking to a pitt grad? Was he the bartender?

Yes, Ryan Nowicki went to IL. Sat out first year there and then transferred.

As they boarded a plane Wednesday morning to go to Bristol, O'Brien and his colleagues walked past a group of six coaches carrying University of Illinois bags and suitcases. A Penn State official told ESPN.com that no words were exchanged between O'Brien and the Illinois contingent. ... Illinois assistant athletic director Kent Brown acknowledged a group of Fighting Illini coaches are on Penn State's campus to recruit "a player or two — maybe more."

At least we can all agree that Urban is the biggest douche of opposing B1G coaches. Beckman was number one only list because of this. This happening makes be maybe believe Karma is real.

I'm really waiting for more details to come forth if that's what it will take to have their players transfer without sitting out and Delany to redistribute their bowl money. Apparently, what we know so far is not enough to get an outraged Delany to a presser where he does some serious piling on.

Remember that no one cares enough about Illinois TO. BE. OUTRAGED.

And IIRC the illinois coaches literally stalked some PSU players showing up at their apartments and as they left classes. Even after being told no by the players they continued to show up for days.

Wow. I figured it would be something like this. What goes around comes around, I guess.
