In a thread that I'm positive will go awol. Here is what he said about the Manning Passing camp over the weekend:

"An awesome experience," Hackenberg, a first-time counselor, said as the camp wrapped up Sunday. "Whatever it was, they (Peyton and Eli) were answering the questions honestly. It was great, just being able to talk ball.

"I was already talking to them about next year," he added. "We'll see if they bring me back."

Counselors are only college QBs. May be nothing, but just saying...

Both Mannings returned for their senior year. Peyton would have been the top pick in 97 if he came out. Eli wouldn't have gone quite as high. Eli is actually a decent comp for Hack IMO. Two, big strong-armed qb's with great arms. Neither have Peyton's brain. But, only one or two in the history of the NFL do.

They were both sacked more times than lunch recently. I guess it's a fair comparison. I just don't think it's a certainty he leaves for the draft even if he's the top pick. Both Peyton and Luck passed on it.

Yeah, Eli actually redshirted his first year at Ole Miss and spent 5 years there. Still the overall #1 pick.

"Omaha!!" Is the camp for college kids or NFL first round picks, or both? If its for college kids, sounds like he is saying he'll be back.

Truth probably is that he won't seriously decide what to do until after the season but who knows?

Only college QBs, but yea I doubt he'll actually decide until the seasons over. I doubt if he wins the Heisman and wins a National Championship that he would then but I might not come back to work if that happens so...

I saw that quote and immediately thought the same. If nothing else, it seems his leaving is at least not a foregone conclusion.

If he changes his mind, how long before folks on here brand him as a self-serving, manipulative liar?

i think it depends on the year he has. If he has a really good year and is the consensus #1 QB out of college, Top 5 pick, then I think he goes. If he has a decent year but looked at some more of a late 1st/early 2nd round guy, then I think he does some serious thinking about it. Either way, he came to PSU when there was no reason that he should have with the sanctions and PSU fans should be proud either way.

Actually, I think he will stay for his senior year. IFFFF the OL can actually protect him !!!!! I think the team can be really good and win 10 games. Assuming such he might want a senior year to have a chance at a REALLY special year.

There are so many variables that Hack would be foolish to make a decision one way or another right now. What if Hack comes out publicly next week and says he'll return for his senior year, only to have the Texans bomb out and end up with the #1 overall pick? What if the opposite occurs and the team picking #1 is a team like the Rams who run a system that Hack likely would struggle in? In that situation, Hack could very well place his bets on returning for his senior year and trying the lottery again with another team likely having the #1 overall.

As much as I want him to stay, I'll support and be proud of him either way. As Cletus said, he came to PSU when there was no reason for him to do so. He's been a joy to watch and he's represented PSU extremely well. I think his commitment to PSU at a very difficult time when he could have gone just about anywhere was critical in getting us to where we are today.

He stuck with us when things were bad when he could've gone anywhere. Kid is committed to his teammates and his school. If he heads to the NFL, we'll miss him, but I'll be rooting for him wherever he ends up. He represents Penn State extremely well.

I think it would just be cool for him to come back and torch pitt for about 500 yds

Exactly. I was one of those who wrongly assumed he was all but out the door. So wrong was I. A little nod to Yoda with the new Star Wars on the way.

I think it would be in Hack's best interest to come back for his true senior season. As others have pointed out, both Mannings had long collegiate stints when they could've bolted. I did some further research on the top NFL QB's and the vast majority of them spent at least 4 years in college. Brady, Brees, Ben, Flacco, Luck, Wilson, Manning brothers, Romo, Rivers. Of the two who left early, Rodgers and Alex Smith...both of them took some time to come into their own as professionals.

The young man won't even turn 21 until the February after this season. Is he really mature enough for The NFL, draft process, and being placed on a crappy team like Jacksonville where all of the fans will think he is the savior? His family isn't living pay check to paycheck and he should really consider the benefits of staying in the friendly confines of State College for another year. Im not saying this selfishly but I bet his senior year at Penn State on a roster of mostly all veterans will be one of the best years of his life. Most of the successful NFL QB's would agree that staying in school benefitted them tremendously.

I would hate to see him make the same mistake Blaine Gabbert did with the 3 year only plan.
