It’s a great situation for a young QB to step into with a top 5 defense, top 5 o-line, and weapons like Marshall, Decker, and Ivory.

Having Fitzpatrick there as a mentor is a huge plus as well. If you haven’t been watching, Fitzpatrick is basically a rich man’s Matt McGloin. He has a noodle arm but plays like a fearless gun slinger, just like Matty. He played for OB last year and you can see OB’s fingerprints all over him. The Harvard grad said he learned more about quarterbacking in his 1 year with O’Brien than he did in his previous 9 seasons combined.

Fitz knows how Hack was mentored. He has firsthand experience in the system Hack thrived in. He’s the perfect QB for Hackenberg to come in and sit behind for a year.

Jets are going to be drafting in the 18-23 range this year and its looking like Hack will still be available then. I bet the Jets GM Maccagnan (who was on the staff that hired OB in Houston and knows how much OB covets Hack) takes a long look at Hack for that pick.

Despite all of Hack’s flaws, he is still the QB prospect with the highest upside in this class. With his arm and mind he has a chance to be truly great. But the last two years have made him fragile and he looks like he’s close to becoming David Carr. If Hack goes to a bad team with a bad o-line, he has no chance. If he goes to the Jets, he may become the player we all hoped he would be.
