No one would argue that. The Phillies were awful for decades.

the wrong team left town.

Re: No one would argue that. The Phillies were awful for decades.

And IIRC- even with all those decades of 'awfulness'- the Phillies still have the same number of World Series titles (2) and more pennants (7) than the team from the 'mistake by the lake'. ;).

I would, Indians have been to one World Series in the last 60 years

Phils have made 5 trips since 1980 with two titles. I'll take the latter any day. Sarge sounds like a Pitt fan going back to the 1800's to justify his team's success.

Sarge is just upset that Joe Table blew their chances

I'm a life-long Phillies fan. Except for 1993, the period from 1984-2005 was pretty damn dark. Crappy ownership pleading small market blues. Middleton will prevail, hopefully...

None of this means anything

The fact that the Phillies lost 100 games every year in the 20's, 30's, and 40's doesn't matter a hell of a lot to me, since it was decades before I was born, when they were trading players for boxes of fine cigars. In my lifetime, (actually since I was a teenager) they have 2 world titles, 5 pennants, I don't know how many divisions, I'll guess 11. That ain't too bad, that's playoffs less than every five years average for me. Older fans (presumably Sarge and his peers) may remember when the Phillies had never a hope, and no players and when the Tribe was good in the late 40's and 50's. I don't. Wasn't alive then. And by the same token if Sarge wants to stick his finger in the air for the a Tribe World Series almost 100 years ago, hey, no problem here. Rock on.

F*ck. Baseball on March 16th? It's not enough to blather about it for six months during the actual season.

Game 36: How could he throw a curveball on 2-1 in the 3rd inning with no score?

Game 52: How could he try to steal 2nd in the 4th inning when nothing else was happening?

Game 79: The Phillies have already been eliminated from the playoffs, but this game against Calgary is huge.

July 17th. Sports are on. I have to watch! This game means nothing, but it means everything!

In case anyone cares:

Pittsburgh Pirates (9702-9382 W-L, 1891 - 2014) - 5 World Championships, 9 Pennants, and 16 Playoff Appearances
Pittsburgh Alleghenys (441-617 W-L, 1882 - 1890)
Overall (10143-9999 W-L, 1882 - 2014) - 5 World Championships, 9 Pennants, and 16 Playoff Appearances

2014Forbes value of MLB franchises #6 Phillies $975 Million,

#24 Cleveland Indians $575 Million. Guess all those wins by the Cleveland naps don't have much weight for current value!

You reference the Philadelphia Athletics?

If so, I agree, though by the 1950s Phillies' ownership had deeper pockets than their counterpart with the A's.

Yeah, to bad 1915 doesn't factor into much today.*

What a sorry state of affairs, comparing Cleveland to Philly.
