Rewatching the Cenzo/Marinelli match reminded me how often I see college wrestlers messing with their headgear during a match (Cenzo in this instance). I think Snyder had to fix his headgear during the Coon match tonight too (though the UM faithful clearly saw it as a lunger). Have there not been advances in headgear technology available to these elite wrestlers? Looks like they’re using the same thing I strapped on 30+ years ago.

No matter if the most advanced or the most old school, if they are not fitted correctly they will need self-adjusted during compeition.

Two of my biggest frustrations regarding wrestlers:

#1 wrestlers not taking the time to make sure the headgear fits well prior to wrestling.

#2 Wrestlers not taking advantage of their opponents lapse in stance and focus while they fix/adjust the headgear while live wrestling

I think grabbing of headgear, particularly the straps when tying up, happens a lot. Hard for the refs to see it and it will dislodge the equipment.

So I did that once in HS... guy was fixing his headgear so I took a blast double.

Coach said it was like when a guy gets hurt in soccer. Just an unwritten rule. He wasn't thrilled and apologized to the other coach for sportsmanships sake. I think its just something preached at a young age. At least it was for me.

Not sure why, but this reminded me of an old joke.

Guy walks into a pharmacy and picks up a package of condoms. He gets to the counter and asks how much they are. The cashier says "That will be $5.00, plus tax." And the guy says, "So, THAT'S how you keep them on."

Or:

A man walks into a drug store with his 8-year-old son. They happen to walk by the condom display, and the boy asks, "What are these, Dad?"

The man matter-of-factly replies, "Those are called condoms, son. Men use them to have safe sex."

"Oh I see," replied the boys pensively. "Yes, I've heard of that in health class at school."

He looks over the display and picks up a package of three and asks, "Why are there three in this package."

The dad replies, "Those are for high-school boys. One for Friday, one for Saturday, and one for Sunday."

"Cool!" says the boy. He notices a pack of six and asks "Then who are these for?"

"Those are for college men," the dad answers, "Two for Friday, two for Saturday, and two for Sunday."

"WOW!" exclaimed the boy. "Then who uses these?" he asks, picking up a 12-pack.

With a sigh, the dad replied, "Those are for married men. One for January, one for February, one for March."

I'm not so sure that THIS wouldn't solve the problem, as well as concussion prevention.
