Nice that Barkley is getting some substantial recognition way before the season of hype gets underway.
Makes me wonder how Coach will use him in the early season. ie Kent then Pitt followed by Temple.
I think Barkley will be used early and often vs Kent, but once the game is in hand he will go to the bench. No reason to risk injury vs an opponent we should handle without him. The Good Guys 34-17, in an up and down performance.
Pitt is another matter. Pitt will key on SB so it may be up to our QB to make things happen early to punish a D stacking the LOS. This will be a preview of the season to come. IF we can throw the ball effectively to a variety of receivers, that will force the Pitt D to change, and give SB some running room as the game wears on. SB gains 100+ and we come from behind for a 27-17 win and take that first Big Step toward having a very good season.
Entering the game 2-0, Temple will be facing a highly motivated team that is starting to show a balanced O. Temple plays us tough, and we are still young in key positions, so the first half will be dictated by turnovers and a couple of big plays. Temple comes out strong and leads 17-14 at the half. The crowd is uneasy as the 2nd half begins, but STs make a big play, running back a punt, or KO, for the score. The O comes alive, and memories of 2015 in Philly energize the OL as our RBs start gashing Temple ( who are missing their senior defensive stars from last year.) The 3rd quarter is all Penn State, as the honoring of JoePa's anniversary ignites the team on both sides of the ball. Going away, Penn State 41-20.
Somehow the team is showing a new cohesion, renewed energy, and real teamwork, as the D firms up, STs begin to contribute important points and turnovers, and the O begins to resemble a future powerhouse.
We are 3-0 and starting to believe in ourselves. SB has three 100 yard games under his belt. Our QB is completing 65% of his passes. Our TEs are contributing tough catches down the middle. And that true freshman rb is poised to begin contributing mightily as the BT schedule gets underway. Our "secret weapon" has been used sparingly so far, but is about to be unleashed. Tandem star quality RBs, an efficient though young QB, and one of the best WR stables in the BT. Oh, and that OL. Have you ever seen such a turnaround in just one year? What a difference coaching can make.
