Kirby Hocutt (chairman)[14] Texas Tech athletic director; former Kansas State linebacker Big 12
Barry Alvarez Wisconsin athletic director; former Wisconsin coach Big Ten
Jeff Bower former Southern Miss head coach
Herb Deromedi former Central Michigan head coach
Tom Jernstedt Former NCAA executive vice president
Bobby Johnson Former Vanderbilt head coach
Jeff Long Arkansas athletic director SEC
Rob Mullens Oregon athletic director Pac-12
Dan Radakovich Clemson athletic director ACC
Condoleezza Rice Former U.S. Secretary of State and Stanford provost
Steve Wieberg Former USA Today reporter
Tyrone Willingham Former Stanford / Notre Dame / Washington head coach

There are 5 former coaches including Barry Alvarez whose opinions probably carry a little more weight in the room than some of the others. From what I have heard over the years, Barry Alvarez is a "very strong" personality and may be a the defacto "chairman" of the group.

The former coaches should have a pretty good understanding of how much effort and work it takes to win a conference championship on the field of play, including head to head results. I suspect they could easily put themselves in the shoes of James Franklin and say "hey, if my team won the division, conference, AND the head to head game, I'll be damned if some room full of 'experts' is going to send team B INSTEAD of me to the playoff".

I am not arguing that these coaches are going to come to the conclusion that PSU is better than OSU. Instead, I think these coaches may very well argue for a agree to a "compromise" that if OSU is going, then so is PSU.

Which is why I think it will be Alabama, OSU, Clemson, and PSU (assuming all win out).

For those of you that are going to jump on the Washington bandwagon, I have a lot of objective factors that will be analyzed that lead me to believe they won't have any problem justifying a choice of PSU over WA.

I will save those for another post.

Jeff Long worked at UM and Deromedi is a friend of Lloyd Carr's. Just providing some conspiracy kindling for the fire.

I appreciate many here to try to reasonably argue that we should get in if we beat Wisconsin, but the Committee decision will not be based upon reason. The fact is that when the Chairman tells you that between us and Ohio State, "Penn State is not close", that speaks to more than just us vs Ohio State. It tells you what the Committee thinks of us in general, and that is "we don't belong." If you just accept that the system is rigged, you will not have your dreams destroyed on Selection Sunday. I don't care if we beat Wisconsin by 21, and Washington and Clemson both lose, we are out. Michigan and Colorado (if they beat Washington) are the teams in waiting. We have no chance. That is not being negative. It is not being anti-Penn State. It is reality.

I liked her as SOS, but no she don't, she should have no say in this.

Just a minute Nate. What about this?

Wow. So if this does not come to pass, I trust you will be prepared to come back to this thread and note how mistaken you were in proclaiming a vast conspiracy to "keep PSU out."

For the record, I believe PSU will jump both Wisconsin and Michigan if the Lions win next Saturday, and that the Lions will be in the CFB Playoff if either Clemson or Washington loses.

You are absolutely right. For now I want to see Jim Delany handing the B!G Championship trophy to James and Sandy

I will readily, and HAPPILY, note the error of my ways and apologize to all who may have been disheartened by my gloomy outlook.

By the same token, if the Lions beat Wisconsin and do NOT jump Michigan in the final Bowl Selection Committee rankings, I will come back to this thread and acknowledge how right you were to claim there was a conspiracy. God, if that happens, not only will this Board blow up, the whole college football community is gonna blow up.
