Sitting here on my perch a few miles to the south watching the sun rise over the Atlantic, it just hits home that Chambers' success in getting some of the best players out of this Philly basketball culture is the main source of the light I see at the end of the tunnel. A lot has been said about why and how PSU basketball was always on the outside looking in during previous coaches' tenures, but the bottom line is that Chambers has found a crack in the wall somewhere and wheedled his way in. Maybe an unfair characterization, since it probably was work, work, work and try, try again. However he did it - he did it.

These three guys, if they have success at PSU, could signal the biggest turning point in the program's history. I am excited to find out, and more hopeful than when a sort of roundish forward out of NYC named Ron Brown showed up in 1970. But Dick Harter never followed it up to build a pipeline out of that market, and he was just another one of those guys who could not crack Philly, and he was a damn good coach. At least that is what I seem to remember. Was it really that long ago?

Anyway, think how great it will be to see a PSU game on the TV schedule and actually look forward to watching, instead of dreading that it will be another painful experience? A little harsh, I admit, but that is how I have felt most of the time since the Crispin brothers and company provided a little false hope. I tuned in because I bleed blue and white, but often wanted to cover my eyes. Actually did from time to time.
