I'm bored as hell, it's freezing out, and I have time to think about some scenarios that MIGHT have taken place in the past few weeks at PSU, but probably didn't. Isn't it strange how FAST Franklin replaced both Donovan and Hand? And how QUICKLY he named Pry as DCoord when Shoop left? Hmmm...being privvy to some coaching re-shuffle dramas in my career I'm going to go off the deep end here and propose a few "What ifs?" that are probably a bunch of crap but who knows for sure but Franklin?
First, it was obvious that Donovan was going to get canned..probably obvious since the middle of the season. So the fact that Moorhead was already lined up for that job is no big deal. BUT..what about Shoop? What if Franklin was NOT pleased with Shoop's overall performance this past year, considering the talent that was available on defense and the points given up? What if Franklin had a private meeting with Shoop after the season and said, "Sorry but I'm going with Pry as my DCoord. If you want to stay fine, and if you want to look elsewhere I know you have opportunities so take them and I'll regretfully accept your resignation here." Possible..not very probable but still possible.
The Hand situation is the same scenario IMO. Franklin meets with him and says, "Herb we've been friends a long time but I have to let you go. I'm not going to make this public until you can secure another job and at that point you can resign from our staff and I'll accept regretfully." Again, possible? Maybe not, but DAMN Limegrover was hired FAST wasn't he? The fumes from Hand's car were still in the parking lot at the Lasch Building when Limegrover was hired. That's some fast "search" by Franklin wasn't it?
Like I said Im SURE these scenarios didn't really happen BUT..then again I've been through situations like this where guys were fired but it was never announced until they had another job and could gracefully "resign". In Hand's case I suspect this could very well be true..not so sure about Shoop. It's something to muse over anyway on a freezing friggin cold day in South Jersey.
