I think the Vol fans are really being the worst of the worst and the dumbest of the dumb

They aren't impressed with Schiano's ".500 record"

Schiano took over a program that had only 4 winning seasons under Dick Anderson, Doug Graber, and Terry Shea (in fact they were 11-44 under Shea)

Giving a new coach 4 year pass to rebuild, Schiano was 12-34 in his first 4 years

Then he had 6 winning seasons of his last 7, also winning FIVE Bowl games

Flood had 3 ho hum seasons after Schiano left, then the program has been in the tank since joining the Big Ten

I don't get where he is a "bad" coach.

dayum, ex-Rutgers AD has some smack to talk about the Vols:

Bob Mulcahey rips Tenn

"I think the unwillingness of Tennessee to stand up demonstrates what's going wrong with college athletics today: That the fans think they know better and what's best for the school, and administrations are unwilling to stand up for people with core values," Mulcahy told NJ Advance Media.

When they're being led to believe Jon Gruden is a legit option to try to get them back to being relevant and then they get a "former Rutgers coach that failed in the NFL" they're not going to be happy. People forget now but the Bill O'Brien hire was a massive meltdown here until his introduction speech. Tennessee, right or wrong (probably wrong), considers themselves to be an elite job so Schiano isn't going to go over well. The Sandusky stuff was BS but I get the outrage over Schiano being hired. This board would have been livid IMO. Just like I was ready to burn the place down when Golden was falsely rumored to have been hired to replace O'Brien

Despite what happened in Oakland--Lane was pretty highly thought of--so was Butch. The Dooley hiring was odd. It was like Tennessee didn't know what to do when Lane left.

Butch Jones is dumb as a stone and Lane Kiffin he leaves a long lasting stench behind where ever he goes. Dooley probably went to the same church as the head of the booster club.

Bob Mulcahy talking about what's wrong with college athletics? ROTFLMAO.

Here’s all you need to know about Schiano:

HE. WON. AT. RUTGERS.

tennessee athletic supporters should let that sink in for a minute (or ten since they’re slow).

Now there you go bringing up that Peyton Manning business again.

Lane was highly thought of? What?

He was young (33-34), son of Monte (widely respected), good recruiter at USC...failed in Oakland but that just made people think he was a college coach. USC didn't hire him because they thought he was a joke...nor did Tennessee...nor did Saban. He's gdoing well at FAU--only a matter of time before someone relevant gambles on him again...still just 42/43

Don't stop now Rip. You're on a roll!

Every Sunday morning the Vols post game fan call in show is on the radio even before the hell fire and brimstone church radio shows come on.....(keeping things in SEC country priority order- football before faith) The fans and show hosts are so damn idiotic .... that hearing the voice of the manic HFB pastor afterward was always a relief!

Kiffin has yet to prove anything beyond a good offensive coordinator. How he got a NFL head coaching gig with zero HC experience is beyond me. Still unsure why the Vols went his way with the poor NFL record. At least USC mistakenly thought it could recreate the Carroll era with a piece of the former pie. Didn't work. His stint at Alabama is much like his first USC run: it's very easy to call plays when you are loaded with future NFL talent. His 7-3 at FAU is probably his more impressive HC fest, but will he be around long enough to see if it's a fluke or does he move on?

Dooley had one winning season at a minor school. Who in their right mind figured he was ready to lead a SEC school in the midst of the conferences best overall run in decades after running off the schools most successful coach for 8 win seasons? Strictly a name hire and not even one of their own.

Butch was probably a better hire than the other two, but still just mildly. He had success, but not Urban Meyer, undefeated at a small school success. UT had too high of hopes for someone who didn't have the experience of dealing with such expectations.

At this point, outside of a miracle they are heading in a terrible direction with no end in sight.

Not named Gruden.

It sounds like the governor and the twitterverse get to decide on the next coach.
After this fiasco Tennessee may need to pull a notre dammed move and hire a local Gerry Faust type high school coach.

I used to visit the USC board when it was still thread view and was made to feel fairly welcome. I can remember the angst from the USC posters, they were, by and large, ready to jump off a cliff at the news that Lane was being considered for HC.

I suppose the point of the original post was that WHEN he was hired at Tennessee, Lane Kiffin was highly thought of. I can agree with that.

At the time people thought Al Davis was nuts for firing him.

It was the next... 12 months that really put a fork in him.
