Here's what a $7 to $9 million per year college head coach will buy you at Michigan.

Other than that, Michigan's on track to win the....Oh, I don't really know what they are on track to win.

I'm guessing they could have paid someone half that and gotten similar results.

I think a key question here is could a coach that is paid half do a cannon ball off the high dive?

I think he's doing a fantastic job and I fully support a lifetime contract for Harbaugh!!

This is what he is being paid for during his first three seasons:

If he can keep this up this season, they will be a force.

Hope he stays at Michigan. Don't want to see a coach that changes the program into a national contender. I like Michigan just the way they are.

He had 11 players drafted this past April and still could only manage 3rd place in 2016. 11!! How much more talent does he need before he can at least finish in 2nd place?

He needs the players that fit his system. So far it seems they lack a QB. Although that frail kid they had played well.

I'm no Harbaugh fan, but he is recruiting lights out and that's what the program needs.

I guess. Seems to me a good coach could make a roster that included 11 NFL-ready players work but maybe not.

Unless he's holding back a massive slumber party to bring in several top player he's no where near the ranking of the past two classes...

Currently #21, with 16 recruits...

What has he done with the talent thus far? Look at Brady Hokes recruiting... he did not leave the cupboard bare. There is a good chance that Michigan will be better next season. The problem is that there won’t be much drop off at tOSU,,Penn State, or MSU. Maybe he wins another game in the division, but I don’t see him winning the division as long as Meyer, Franklin, and Dantonio are there.

He needs a kicker.

Brady Hoke Big 10 Coach of the Year 2011...he was just a little less expensive...

Only part of the job. He inherited a talented team. Have to win on the field too. I'm sure @Anison agrees.
I hate to look at it from a pure won-loss record relative to pre-season expectations because that would tell me Years 1 and 2 exceeded expectations and Year 3 met expectations. The reality IMO is that Year 1 exceeded expectations and Year 2 began the troubling trend that has plagued the team through Year 3 - piss poor offensive line play. With decent offensive line play they should’ve been playing in the B1G championship for a playoff spot last year, and would’ve beaten MSU and OSU this year (bc in my mind the two best QBs don’t both get knocked out).

Recruiting well is nice, but you gotta coach em up. No excuses as we move into 2018 imo.

I think QB was a big problem this year as well. I really believe that with a good signal caller, you guys would have beaten OSU on Saturday. O'Korn missed some throws a D3 QB wouldn't miss. It was tough to watch.

Oh we agree. The point I’m putting on it is that we’d have had a better QB back there if the OL hadn’t gotten Speight (broken vertebrae) and Peters (concussion) killed.

I'm sure they do. They have to blame someone. But hey, the offseason is coming and NO ONE looks better in the off season than Harbaugh.
I suspect Jim will continue to get criticism through this off-season - as well he should. That said, you guys saw up close the difference in the passing offense with Pep as pass game coordinator versus Jedd Fisch last year. I’m sure you are happier to have faced Pep - and OKorn who Pep thought should’ve started the season #1 over Speight. And Drevno’s offensive lines, as I mentioned ITT, have been awful.

Harbaugh is the head man so it all falls to him regardless...including making the right changes to be successful. We’ll see if he makes them.

@Anison thanks for dropping in. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving despite the game.

I always appreciate your level-headed posts here. I know it's early, but given that you said "no excuses" for next year, what are you expectations?

It's pretty much the way Michigan has been since WWII....other than 1997. Overhyped and underperforming is a Michigan staple, so Harbaugh is right on track.

As of right now, not knowing anything about attrition or injuries, I expect a more consistent defense given only a few losses (Hurst, McCray and maybe Winovich) and an improved offensive line. It’s a tough schedule - I won’t be surprised if they drop the opener (night game at Notre Dame). I don’t make win-loss predictions this early without knowing more about our team and our opponents, but I’ll be disappointed if the 2018 team isn’t playing much better on offense and maintaining a high level on defense.

I think the one wildcard is whether Jim develops that talent and uses schemes to maximize it. His offensive schemes have left a lot to be desired. What good are #4-ranked classes if you can't develop a QB?
...and what good is a good QB if you’re going to put him behind a poor offensive line? I submit we don’t even know how good Peters is, for example, because to this point he was out there running for his life two-thirds of the time he dropped back.

UM fans hope and pray Pep moves on. Drevno as well.
As a fellow Michigan fan and correct me if you think I'm way off here but I think JH has some tough decisions to make this offseason with regards to the O coaching staff. Will be interesting to see what happens. I think Franklin did a great job with these types of decisions when he brought on JMO. If I remember correctly it meant telling a pretty good friend it was time to go in another direction. I respect that and look forward to seeing if Harbaugh will do the same. Time will tell. Just my opinion BTW.
