Biding his time waiting for the Mich St position to open up. He's not in demand to go anywhere else.

Just yesterday, it was thought that Herman would go to LSU. I guess that was just incorrect or maybe they talked and Herman wasn't interested or they were far apart on money.

But the media told us!

Does anyone else kind of like Charlie Strong? It seems people are happy he is about to get canned. Guy went into that program after Brown had left it a cesspool, threw up his 5 pillars of being a respectable man- I think it's "no drugs" "no guns " " no abuse of women" and some others. If I'm Baylor I'd hire him in a second to clean that mess. He kicked a ton of bad apples off the team in Texas and it's probably going to cost him his job there. For shame, one of the few coaches that preaches discipline, responsibility, and getting it done in the classroom and community gets fired to the glee of millions because we like seeing people get burned. It sounds familiar. If Franklin was not our coach, I'd put Strong WAY high on my list.

bk, is Herman to Texas confirmed or is that your speculation upon the LSU job being filled?

I don't know if I'd put him very high on my list after losing to Kansas (which Texas should never do even in their worst years).

I think a legitimate issue of concern is that he needs to prove he can win at the major D1 level. Not saying he can't- just that his Texas stint has raised some doubts.......but that is very clouded by the apparent obsessive, interfering, cesspool that is the University of Texas booster influence.

In terms of everything else you stated about his character, and discipline approach- I agree completely. Nice to see a coach who actually practices this rather than just using it as an empty slogan in interviews.

I think it's speculation and let's remember Jimbo Fisher is still out there if Texas wants a 'proven' winner. Word is Fisher was LSU's first choice but he wanted the moon and didn't get it. Herman would be a 'hot' hire for Texas, but they're likely INSTANTLY better with Fisher if they go that route.

Great post and we'll reasoned. I agree with you, Kansas loss is patently unacceptable.

I think Strong made a mistake taking that job- there were rumblings that a lot of the fat cat donors didn't want him to begin with- and they seem to want to run that program

were they? I don't know- he cleaned things up. Was he building something? I'd have given him another year to see.

Third year, third losing record in a row. He is getting $5mm a season.
Seems like a nice guy and I wish him well, but he apparently was not a good hire.

I think that may be right, but I think he's a good coach and a good guy- I hope he gets another shot somewhere.

I watched a few series yesterday against TCU. The effort on defense was embarrassing and you could tell that the players gave up. Is that the coaches fault? Can't really answer that, but I agree psu00. Texas should never lose to Kansas. Charlie will rebound from this.

I don't know if he would take it, but Strong at Purdue might be a good fit.

Yeah, I watched part of that game yesterday and I don't know what to make of that performance.

The team was in total turmoil with 2 weeks now of reports their coach would be fired, then re evaluated at the end of the season, then maybe staying when reports of the Houston coach to LSU were released. The up and down toying with the team was ridiculous.

There were reports of underclassman trying to organize a boycott of the game to support Strong- only to be talked down by the seniors.

I just don't know what to assign the reason for the poor play. I'm sure blame can go all around but man the Texas administrators and boosters seem to have made every misstep possible and hurt their team more than anything else.

I'm also getting tired of the whitewash ESPN and other media is giving the situation. They make comments like 'Texas is a job like no other' and insinuate it's just a massively high profile job with pressures other programs don't have because they aren't at the 'Texas level'.

It seems the reality is that you have an athletic department and a university administration that are so beholden and submissive to big money boosters that the tail wags the dog. It just seems to scream lack of institutional control on every level but everyone just turns a blind eye.

The posters here who live in Texas will know far more than me but it seems that these boosters have waaay too much influence and say in the daily life of that program. Hell, I read 1 of them even has a bronze statue of himself in their stadium. o_O
